I go to a reputed coaching institution in Mumbai & am preparing for JEE Mains & Advanced. I have been solving problems as provided in the coaching material in sync with the topics taught (incl H C Verma for Phy ) in the class except some topics of Class XI which I expect to cover up during revision time which begins October 2013.
I have purchased a guide book for SCRA but haven’t opened it yet. It has almost 1000 questions on GK & English. Do I have to solve 1000 English & GK questions to be prepared for the Eng & GK paper?
I was thinking that my revision of PCM by Jan 2014 would take care of PCM but am confused about Eng & GK.
Can you suggest a better strategy if there is one from your experience?
The SCRA exam, tests the most common of GK. The most important thing you need to do for GK is to see the current affairs. The second thing is that you should have basic GK awareness. Then for English, it takes time to improve. For improving english, you should better read newspapers of good repute.
Due to the pressure & time consumed in studies & preparation he has not been seeing TV, no facebook & no newspapers since the last 1.5 years.
Actually I am his father posting for him. He is totally cut-off from the external world except his classmates & teachers at coaching classes.
What is the solution for him in terms of GK? English should be manageable due to his Class X ICSE background.
Fine, actually I had prepared for IIT in the same way. I was also cut off from the external world for 2 and a half years, i.e from beginning of class11 to till all my entrance exams ended with the results. I had not even met many of my friends.
If he certainly relies on studies, I would suggest a magazine. If he can manage to study at least weekly magazine for GK, that would be fine. If not weekly, monthly.
As a father you can surely get him india today (weekly) or Genereal knowledge today(perhaps fortnightly) or Current-currents (monthly)- This is the best that I would suggest for GK, Competition success review. etc. and if any good magazine available locally. Because, no other way is possible to help induce the outer knowledge.
Sir, I am definitely junior to you. I am a studying at NIT Jamshedpur, 3rd year B.Tech.
I did my preparation in a place where competition is an unknown name. Nobody was there to help me. And I did have that much money to join a coaching. I relied completely on myself and some correspondence material. And being self motivated helps a lot.
I would say to your son to remain motivated and not to lose hope in any situation.
