There is no pass / fail system for all the Classes such as 6th, 7th, and 8th in West Bengal Board of Secondary Education until the board examination after completing the 10th level. As per board guidelines and exam schemes, the respective schools evaluate the students through Summative and Formative Assessment modules throughout the year. But at the end of the day, all the students are generally promoted to the next higher class.
If a student scores below 25% in some subjects in Summative Evaluation or Formative Evaluation or both, then the student is given one month to improve in all the areas (both Summative and Formative) and evaluated again. This process is repeated until the student improves sufficiently to score 25% plus and be promoted to the next higher class.
Hence, all the grade 7 students are promoted to Class 8 following this methodology.
