We cannot stress enough that banking exams hold a special place in the realm of Indian competitive exams—and for several compelling reasons. First and foremost, these banking exams offer job security that is highly sought after by many aspirants. Landing a government or public sector bank position often guarantees a stable career until retirement.
Alongside job security, banking roles come with attractive pay packages and many benefits, including medical insurance, pension schemes, and generous leave policies, making them financially rewarding. Furthermore, the structured promotion system in banks, based on experience and performance, paves the way for consistent career growth and advancement opportunities.
Now, several banks in India conduct various banking exams and offer lucrative perks and allowances, such as:
These banks advertise different job roles on their official websites from time to time, such as Probationary Officer (PO), Clerk, Grade Officer, Assistant, and Specialist Officer (SO), to hire deserving candidates for a fixed timespan. Usually, the contract is for 1–2 years; however, based on candidates’ performance, the contract is extended for some roles.
That is not the whole story about banking exams 2023-24. Combined with reasonable working hours that allow for a healthy work-life balance, makes banking jobs appealing. Moreover, the banking sector offers various roles suited to graduates from diverse backgrounds, ensuring accessibility and relevance for a broad spectrum of candidates. Beyond these advantages, the social prestige and respect associated with the banking profession in India further contribute to their desirability. Banking exams open doors to a secure, rewarding, and esteemed career path—something that most aspirants look out for when looking for a job.
Several banks in India tend to release recruitment advertisements during a fixed time period. For example, SBI releases notifications for PO in September every year—although nowhere is it written that this is fixed.
We have listed the upcoming banking exams 2023-2024 that candidates might be interested in knowing. Most of these exams feature the selection process of two stages, namely Preliminary (a.k.a. Prelims) and Main (a.k.a. Mains), while some might include an interview, too.
There will hardly be an offline exam because most bank exams include a computer-based test (CBT) as part of the selection process. Therefore, aspiring candidates should gear up for the test by taking the banking exam mock test series on Embibe.
Now, let us glimpse the list of upcoming banking exams 2023-24 in India and see if they can still be applied for, i.e. if the deadline is still chasable or over.

Now, let us go over the list of significant bank exams 2023-24 conducted by different banks in India.
Let us begin with the bank exams conducted by IBPS.
IBPS Clerk is one of the most sought-after job opportunities aspiring candidates wish to apply for. IBPS organises two stages to recruit deserving candidates for this job role, and around 11 banks participate in the recruitment process. This year, IBPS introduced 4,545 vacancies for the Clerk and asked aspirants to submit the application form before the deadline. Last year, the number was 6,035.
For aspirants to be eligible for this recruitment, IBPS requires them to satisfy the age limit, educational qualification, and other criteria. Generally, the education required for this recruitment is graduation; however, this could vary depending on the IBPS’ specificity. The basic salary of an IBPS Clerk is Rs.19,900/- to Rs.47,920/- per month, plus other allowances.
IBPS PO stands for Institute of Banking Personnel Selection Probationary Officer, an exam conducted to hire meritorious aspirants for PO into various banking departments. IBPS generally releases the PO notification every year in the last week of July. This year, IBPS announced 3049 vacancies for PO posts and asked interested candidates to forward their applications online before the deadline.
Those who submitted applications will appear for the IBPS PO Prelims exam on September 23, 30, and October 1, 2023. Having scored minimum passing marks in the Preliminary exam, they will be called for the next phase, i.e., Main — which is scheduled on November 5, 2023. Applicants must have a graduate degree, computer proficiency, and language proficiency to apply for IBPS PO — and, of course, the age should be between 20 and 30 years.
IBPS RRB Office Assistant (OA) is another coveted position that aspirants willingly apply for to have a lucrative career in the banking department. OA can also be called ‘Clerk’, and IBPS generally uploads a notification for this position in the first week of June. This year, IBPS introduced 9,075 positions, of which 5,650 are vacant for Clerk (OA), which were revised twice.
IBPS RRB publishes recruitment notifications for Officer Assistant, Officer (Scale-I, II, III), and other positions. However, the selection process includes Preliminary and Main examinations for all advertised positions. Some also include an interview. The starting salary of an OA is Rs.15,000/- up to Rs.20,000/-, including other perks and allowances.
There is OA, and then there is Officer (Scale-I, II, III). Do not confuse both as the same. IBPS Officer is another job opportunity that comes with a lucrative pay scale, starting at Rs. 29,000/-, Rs. 33,000/-, and Rs. 38,000/-, for Scale-I, Scale-II, and Scale-III, respectively. The IBPS Officer job is further categorised into other vacancy fields, such as Agriculture Officer, Marketing Officer, Treasury Manager, Law, CA, IT, and more.
Just like pay, age limit, and educational qualification also differ for aspirants applying for IBPS Officer recruitment. The notification mentions all of it in detail. Out of 9,075 vacancies — as discussed above — 2,560 are available for IBPS Officer (Scale-I), 5,650 for OA, and the rest for other Officer positions. The IBPS Officer (Scale-I) exam is already over on September 10, 2023 for some Officer posts.
SBI Clerk is another national-level exam to recruit deserving aspirants for the Clerk post. SBI announces around 5,000 vacancies for Clerk (Junior Associates) every year or two. These vacancies are categorised state-wise and category-wise. Currently, there is no active or ongoing recruitment for SBI Clerk, but 5,008 vacancies were advertised last year. To be part of the application form submission process, aspirants must pay an application fee of Rs.750/-; however, reserved categories are exempted.
Like most other banking exams, aspirants have to go through Prelims and Mains exams. SBI may also arrange pre-exam training at some specific training centres for the reserved and religious minority communities. The SBI Clerk exam also includes negative markings; therefore, candidates must be cautious while attempting the question paper. Interested candidates can keep an eye on the SBI’s official website for the latest news and updates on SBI Clerk recruitment, i.e., sbi.co.in.
SBI announced the SBI PO recruitment. The notification was issued on September 6, 2023, whereas the online form submission started on September 7, 2023, with the last date to apply being September 27, 2023. The precise number of vacancies is 2,000, and SBI is looking for deserving candidates to fill the vacancies. Again, SBI PO also includes the Prelims and Mains exams. The Prelims is conducted for one hour. The number of marks and questions in the SBI PO Preliminary exam is 100.
The starting pay of SBI PO is more lucrative than other banking jobs. It is Rs 41,960/- and comes with four advancements, not to mention those perks and allowances. SBI conducts Probationary Officer Prelims and Mains exams at around 44 exam centres. SBI also conducts a 6-day pre-exam training for aspirants belonging to reserved and religious minority communities. Check out the exam card below for more details about this banking exam.
Unlike other well-known SBI exams, this one is SBI Apprentice, conducted to hire worthy candidates for various Apprentices posts. This recruitment is provided under the Apprentices Act of 1961. Online registration for SBI Apprentice started on September 1, 2023, and the last date to register is September 21, 2023. The online test is expected to be conducted in October or November of this year.
The SBI Apprentice notification also discusses the state-wise seats available for SBI Apprentice recruitment. These vacancies are further diversified into district-wise training seats. Aspirants must have graduated from a well-reputed university or board to be eligible for this recruitment. Also, the training duration is one year. Aspirants will also be eligible for a stipend of Rs.15000/- per month for the engagement period of one year. However, there are no other allowances given to Apprentices for the apprenticeship.
Another SBI exam that may not have as much prestige as other exams is the SBI CBO exam. CBO stands for Circle Based Officers. A CBO is someone who sanctions the loan packages, manages core branch functions, and monitors the banking operations of the branch. This post is equivalent to the Assistant Manager post often advertised or provided in other banks. There is no ongoing recruitment for this SBI exam because the last notification was published on October 17, 2022.
Candidates must have graduated from a recognised university or college or should have passed any equivalent qualification. Their age should be between 21 and 30 years as on September 30, 2023. The age relaxation is provided to the reserved category candidates. But one thing sets this SBI CBO post apart from others — it requires at least 2 years of experience as an Officer in any scheduled commercial or regional rural bank.
RBI also hires meritorious aspirants for the Grade ‘B’ post. Grade B posts are various Officers hired for numerous departments, such as General, Department of Economic and Policy Research (DEPR), and Department of Statistics and Information Management (DSIM). Generally, the aspirants have to appear for the online exam and then be part of an interview.
RBI usually announces RBI exam notification for Grade ‘B’ in May, but this month is not fixed. RBI also requires that aspirants be graduated from a college affiliated with a well-known university. This is for General; for DEPR and DSIM, the minimum requirement is a Master’s degree. But again, this might change depending on the year the advertisement is released. Therefore, aspirants should always check out the official RBI Grade B notification.
Aspirants willing to be part of RBI’s vision can join as an RBI Assistant and enjoy the endeavour. Those who wish to work as an Assistant can apply for the recruitment on RBI’s website before the deadline and receive lucrative pay upon final selection. The basic pay that Assistants receive is Rs.20,700/-. Plus, there are other allowances included, such as Dearness Allowance (DA), Transport Allowance (TA), City Compensatory Allowance (CCA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), etc.
To crack the RBI Assistant exam at the first attempt, one must have good preparation, a well-thought-out plan, and good exam-taking skills. Currently, the link to apply for Assistant recruitment is inactive. It is expected that RBI will issue an official notification in the third week of September 2023, and the application form submission will either begin on the same day or the next day.
RBI also occasionally invites applications from interested applicants for Office Attendant (OA). The OA job could be a golden opportunity for aspirants willing to make a good career in banking. The good news is that aspirants need not have a graduate degree for this recruitment as the requirement is only matriculation or a Class 10 or high school certificate. However, there are other requirements that are worthy of consideration.
Applicants must be 18 to 25 years old at the time of submitting the application form. Currently, the recruitment process is not active, and notification could be released any time soon. However, if we discuss last year’s statistics, 841 vacancies were advertised last year, and immense numbers of aspirants participated. Continue reading to know more about RBI OA, or jump to the exam card below.
NABARD is another bank that also releases various recruitment notifications from time to time. NABARD releases around 2,00 vacancies for Development Assistant (DA) every year or two and sets the eligibility criteria for the same so that every applicant — despite their category or background — has to follow a set of rules designed for recruitment.
Candidates must hold a graduate degree from a recognised university to apply for DA recruitment. The Prelims exam syllabus comprises three sections, whereas the Mains exam consists of five segments. The former exam comprises a total of 100 marks, whereas the latter includes a total of 200. Usually, the exam syllabus is the same every year; however, aspirants are always suggested to check the notification for accuracy or surety. Upon selection, aspiring candidates get a pay of Rs.32,000/-.
IDBI is also one of the most sought-after banks nationwide. With different job applications released by IDBI, candidates are always curious about the job description (JD) and wish to be part of IDBI’s mission and vision. IDBI issued the Assistant Manager (AM) notification this year on February 17, 2023, and closed the application submission on March 12, 2023, an extended date.
Also, this year’s recruitment is being organised for 600 vacancies for AM. The selection is based on candidates’ performance in an online test followed by an interview. Like other banking recruitments, this one also requires that candidates must have a graduate degree, and their age should not be less than 21 years and not exceed 28 years as on January 1, 2023.
This is another — yet significant — exam organised by IDBI for the appointment of ‘Executives’ purely on a contractual basis. The contract is usually initially for one year and might be extended on a year-to-year basis for a further two-year period, which depends on candidates’ performance, completion of assigned certifications, vacancy availability, and a relevant time period. Upon completing three years of contractual service, aspirants become ‘Assistant Manager (Grade A)’.
Executives are paid a remuneration of Rs.29,000/- per month in their first year of service, Rs.31,000/- in the second year, and Rs.34,000/- in the third year. However, since these three years are contractual, the candidates will not be paid any other allowances or perks, such as DA, HRA, etc. However, those who are appointed for the job will be covered under the IDBI Bank Ltd. New Pension Scheme (IBLNPS).
ESIC SSO stands for Employees’ State Insurance Corporation Social Security Officer. This one also requires a graduate degree, and candidates must be between 21 and 27 years old. The age relaxation is given based on candidates’ categories. Even this exam is conducted in three stages: Prelims, Mains, and, in place of an Interview, a Computer Skill Test or Descriptive Test is conducted.
There are no vacancy announcements, but 93 vacancies were released last year. Aspirants willing to participate in Social Security Officer should keep an eye on the advertisements issued on ESIC’s website and keep in touch with our blog, where we regularly add job-related news and updates. Upon selection, aspirants will be paid Rs. 44,900/- to Rs.1,42,400/- per month as per the 7th Central Pay Commission.
This is another coveted job that ESIC publishes the notification for every year. However, the ESIC Steno notification is not released alone; it comes combined with the details of the Upper Division Clerk (UDC) and Multi-tasking Staff (MTS). To apply for this recruitment, applicants must possess a high school certificate and skill test norms that applicants have to satisfy, such as dictation, transcription, etc.
Applicants forwarding their applications for this recruitment must be 18 to 27 years old, and relaxation will only be granted for reserved candidates. The notification includes a step-by-step procedure to register for the ESIC Steno vacancy, pay the application fee, and take a final printout of the application form. Applicants may also be required to provide a handwritten declaration. There is a complete set of guidelines for the documents to be uploaded.
UDC, as in ESIC UDC, stands for Upper Divisional Clerk, a job advertised by ESIC to hire worthy candidates for Clerk posts in its suitable departments. As discussed above, ESIC releases a consolidated notification of jobs, including UDC. So, it is likely that ESIC will release the recruitment notification for UDC and Steno together. Although ESIC UDC is not one of the banking exams 2023-24 that we are discussing today as the main topic, it does hold the same significance as any other banking exam.
But like most ban exams 2023-24, this one also includes Prelims and Mains as part of the selection process. However, in place of an interview, there is a Skill Test each registered aspirant has to qualify. ESIC UDC Prelims and Mains exams include the same sections where the questions are asked, and even the maximum marks are 200; however, the overall questions differ — the preliminary exam includes 100 questions, whereas the main exam consists of 200. So, the difference lies in how many marks each question carries for each stage.
Andhra Pradesh State Cooperative Bank (APCOB) conducts recruitment for different Assistant posts, namely Staff Assistant, Assistant Manager, etc. The number of vacancies announced by APCOB for Assistant posts may vary. While there is no ongoing recruitment, it is expected that APCOB will soon issue an advertisement for exam exams 2023-24, including the bank exam date. APCOB advertised 168 Assistant vacancies last year.
Aspirants should take mock tests on Embibe to improve their exam-taking performance. Only a few mock tests will show great improvement in their overall performance. The mock test series simulates what exactly taking the test at the exam centre will look like, giving aspirants an idea of what to expect and what to be ready for while sitting in the exam hall.
Bihar State Cooperative Bank (BSCB) conducts various examinations to scrutinise the candidates worthy of the advertised vacancies. And ‘Assistant Manager’ is one of those vacancies that BSCB publishes recruitment advertisements.
While taking the Assistant Manager exam may seem easy, it may be challenging as it is one of the most sought-after banking exams 2023-24. Therefore, one must have a well-thought-out exam-taking strategy to ace the test.
An upcoming notification for this banking exam might be uploaded shortly on the official website. While recruitment holds the same significance as any other banking exam, the number of vacancies advertised might be slightly lower.
Still, BSCB receives immense numbers of applicants from different parts of the country. Candidates should have a graduate degree; however, those with an MBA degree will be given preference.
Nainital Bank is also one of the most reputed banks in the country that invites applications from interested candidates from time to time to fill in the vacancies as per the requirements. It hires deserving candidates for ‘Clerk’ position as well. This year, Nainital Bank has invited 110 clerks vacancies and asked interested applicants to submit their applications from August 5 to September 3, 2023.
Of 110 vacancies, 60 are for Management Trainee (MT) and 50 are for Clerk. Also, applicants had to pay a certain amount as an application fee to be part of the recruitment process, which differs from post to post. Like the fee, the education requirements also vary for MT and Clerk. Now that the application form submission process is over, aspirants are looking for their Nainital Bank Clerk admit cards to appear for the test.
Nainital Bank PO is another recruitment holding the same equivalence. While the term PO or Probationary Officer might sound completely different, it actually is Management Trainee (MT). Nainital Bank PO and Nainital Bank MT are both the same. As mentioned above, there are 50 vacancies for Nainital Bank PO, and candidates will leave no stone unturned for this recruitment—and they should do so because not everyone gets such an impressive opportunity.
Another good thing about working as a PO at Nainital Bank is that final appointees will get a monthly pay scale of Rs. 40,000/-. Although the number of vacancies available in this is not huge, there will still be stiff competition among the candidates to approach the final stage of recruitment. We suggest all those planning to appear for the Nainital Bank PO exam should take Embibe’s Nainital Bank PO mock test series.
South Indian Bank (SIB) is another major private sector bank headquartered in Thrissur, Kerala, India. The bank was founded in 1928 and releases different recruitment notifications on its website, i.e., southindianbank.com. Unlike other banking exam recruitment, SIB recruitment for Clerks follows a timeline of around 12–15 days. Put differently, aspirants usually get much time to apply for the available SIB vacancy. But there is no such hard and fast rule that this will always happen.
Last time, SIB published a recruitment SIB Clerk notification on February 1, 2023, and asked aspirants to submit the application form before February 12, 2023. The exam was conducted on February 18, 2023. To apply for the SIB recruitment, aspirants must fulfil some criteria, such as their age must not be more than 26 years, and they must have a graduate degree from a well-recognised university or college affiliated with a well-reputed university. Continue reading to learn more about the SIB Clerk 2023-24 banking exam.
Just like Clerk, another post that SIB hires occasionally is ‘PO’. SIB PO could be a great opportunity for aspirants willing to pursue their career as a Probationary Officer. The probation period is usually six months, and the confirmation is subject to the aspirants’ performance. The service agreement timespan is also three years. SIB conducts an online test and interview to shortlist the candidates for PO, and no aspirant can proceed to the interview round without passing the online test.
SIB PO is one of the competitive exams and includes 100 questions and 100 marks, with 4 segments. All applicants must read the notification carefully before applying online for recruitment, especially they should do so when it comes to the eligibility criteria. If SIB later finds out that some candidates failed to meet the requirements, it will disqualify them instantaneously.
It is no wonder that each banking exam will have its own syllabus or exam pattern; however, for the sake of discussion, we can say that some sections share similarities and should be given preference during preparation.
Of course, there will be some slight differences, depending on how high or lower the position aspirants apply for.
