Those who are willing to appear for UPSC IRPS exam must be between 21 to 32 years of age as on the decided date by the authorities. UPSC also gives age relaxations to candidates belonging to reserved category.

There are two modes of recruitment to Indian Railway Personnel Services:
Only 50% of the posts are meant for Direct Recruitment and 50% posts are filled through promotion from Group ‘B’ Cadre.

Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS) basically deals with Human Resources and Personnel Management discipline in the Central Government. It is under the administrative control of Member (Staff) at the Railway Board’s level. The Personnel Department performs a significant role in all the activities of Indian Railways including – train operations, safety, productivity and earnings, as also the support activities for all departments of Indian Railway.
IRPS officers are posted to work on divisions, workshops, zonal headquarters, production units and the Ministry of Railways (Railway Board). The functions are broadly divided as:

Candidates must have passed in graduation from a recognized university/institute to be eligible.
DRM is a senior S A grade officer. He/She becomes DRM after putting in around seven years of service in SA grade. The pay scale of SA grade is 37400-67000 with Grade Pay of Rs. 10000.
To have a career as an IRPS officer, you must apply for the UPSC CSE exam. You will have to qualify in the preliminary, mains and interview in order to get selected for this post.
