CBSE Class 6 Detailed Exam Pattern 2025

The CBSE Class 6 curriculum requires students to study Mathematics, Science, and Social Science with two language subjects – English and a regional language of their choice. According to the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation, students will be evaluated on mainly two levels – Formative Assessment and Summative Assessment based on the CBSE 6th class syllabus.

  • Formative Assessment: This assesses the students’ daily progress right from their performance in classwork, homework, quizzes, co-curricular and extracurricular activities, and projects.
  • Summative Assessment: This type of assessment evaluates students based on their written examinations. The written exams are usually held twice a year, and the exam duration can be between 1 hour and 30 minutes to 3 hours.

The Formative Assessment accounts for 40% of the total marks, while the Summative Assessment accounts for 60% of the total marks. Different schools conduct the assessments in different schedules and at the discretion of the school authorities.
