October 11, 2024The Central Board of School Education (CBSE) will implement the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage (NCFFS) from the academic session 2023-24. The structure of five-year education at foundational stage will be applicable in all the schools affiliated to it and the schools that offer foundational stage education. The framework will be implemented for students in the age group of 3 to 8 years, for the classes Nursery to Class 2.
The decision was announced by Anurag Tripathi, Secretary, CBSE. Schools offering foundational or preparatory education are advised to adhere to the recommendation with respect to the curriculum, assessment, pedagogy, and other academic areas. Continue reading to know more about the implementation of NCFFS in CBSE.
NCERT has developed the NCFFS 2022 in accordance with the mandate of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It aims at outlining the competencies and learning outcomes of students and also in the general principles and approaches to guide in teaching and learning at these stages. It shall also serve as a guideline for school administration and teachers to devise and develop syllabus, teaching materials, and other educational activities that align with the national educational goals.
Schools that offer the foundational or preparatory education for nursery to class 2 should adhere to the all the recommendations of the NCFFS 2022. It includes several illustrations and examples that play a vital role in its successful implementation. They also help in clarifying abstract concepts and reinforce the learning process. These illustrations make it easier for the teachers to access the new ideas.
A wide variety of examples are incorporated to improve understanding the concepts in the students, encourage their engagement in the academic activities, and emphasise on the concrete ways in which the concepts can be implemented in regular teaching. So, it is critical that teachers look at these illustrations and contextualise them according to the needs and contexts of the children.
All the schools offering classes 1 to 10/12 are called upon to make efforts to augment the infrastructural requirements gradually, to include pre-primary classes. Schools already running foundational classes may continue to offer 3 years of pre-primary education. The teachers’ qualification remain the same as per the existing NCERT notification and its subsequent amendments.
