  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted India’s powerful pharmaceutical industry as a significant advantage in the global battle against TB. He also mentioned that India had set a goal of eradicating TB by the year 2025, which is five years ahead of the global target of 2030.

Intel co-founder and creator of Moore’s Law, Gordon Moore dies at the age of 94

  • Gordon Moore, a pioneer in the microprocessor industry and a co-founder of Intel, which at one time was the world’s largest semiconductor maker, has died at the age of 94.
  • Moore was a giant in the technological transformation of the modern age, helping companies bring ever more powerful chips to smaller and smaller computers.
  • An engineer by training, he co-founded Intel in July 1968, eventually serving as president, chief executive and chairman of the board.
  • Moore’s law is the observation that the number of transistors in an integrated circuit (IC) doubles about every two years. 

Saurashtra Tamil Sangam will be held at Somnath from 17 to 26 April

  • Mansukh Mandaviya, the union health minister, announced that the Saurashtra Tamil Sangam, which would connect Tamil Nadu and Saurashtra, will take place from 17 April to 26 April in Somnath, Dwarka, and other locations in Gujarat.
  • Additionally present were BJP State President Annamalai, Gujarat Ministers Kunvarji Bavaliya and Jagdish Vishwakarma, and Union Minister of State for Information, Broadcasting, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy L. Murugan.

  • Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah chaired the Regional Conference on “Drug Trafficking and National Security” recently at Bengaluru.
  • Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Government of India has adopted a “Zero Tolerance” policy against drugs to make a drug-free India.
  • The Union Home Minister emphasised that in order to crack down on the entire network, narcotics cases should be thoroughly investigated, with a “bottom to top and top to bottom” approach involving other states and institutions.
  • The government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has four main pillars in its campaign to eliminate drugs from the country: Detection of drugs, Destruction of the network, Detention of culprits and Rehabilitation of drug addicts.
  • The government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has adopted a “Whole of Government Approach” against drugs. 
  • The government is moving towards making a drug-free India by increasing cooperation, coordination and collaboration between all departments and agencies.
