However, IMU CET requires that aspirants possess a higher secondary school certificate for undergraduate courses and a B.Tech/ B.E. degree from a recognised university to be eligible for the entrance examination.

3. Age Limit

Now, again, this is subject to change from exam to exam, such as JEE Advanced makes it mandatory for aspirants to be born on or after October 1, 1998. However, for JEE Main, there is no lower or upper age limit—and the same goes for BITSAT.

Age criteria could also vary depending on gender, and the type of course; for example, IMU CET mandates that each aspirant must satisfy the minimum age criteria of 17 years and maximum limit of 25 years for males and 27 years for females. This is for undergraduate courses. For postgraduate courses, there is no minimum age requirement; however, the maximum age limit still applies—i.e., 28 years for males and 30 for females.

4. Total Attempts

‘Total attempts’ is the number of how many times you can appear for an engineering entrance test within one year. If we consider JEE Main, then the total number of attempts is six; whereas, for IMU CET, there is no such limit.

Unlike IMU CET, there is no limit on the number of attempts for VITEEE, but MHT CET limits the number of attempts to three. That is why, aspirants must prepare well and ensure they check out the number of attempts.

5. Physical Fitness

Some engineering entrance tests even require that candidates are physically fit while applying. If you are applying for exams like IMU CET, then you must also satisfy some physical requirements, such as eyesight.

For such tests, aspirants must have good binocular vision. Since IMU CET is about getting admission to marine programmes (DG shipping-approved courses), persons with disabilities are not eligible to apply.

Conquering engineering exams is akin to setting sail in uncharted waters, filled with challenges and exhilarating discoveries because let’s admit it—engineering exams are not a walk in the park.

Here’s your personalised blueprint for preparation, a roadmap to not just survive but thrive amidst the complexities you might face while preparing for the engineering exams:

1. Set the Course: Defining Your Destination

Begin your expedition by setting a clear destination. Identify the specific engineering exams you aim to conquer. Whether it’s JEE Main, BITSAT, or state-level exams like MHT CET or KEAM, know your targets. This clarity acts as your North Star, guiding every study session and practice test.

2. Plot Your Map: Syllabus Demystification

Demystify—or break down your syllabus into parts.

Remember, the syllabus is your treasure map. Dive deep into it, understanding every nook and cranny. Break it down into manageable sections and conquer them one at a time.

Create a syllabus tracker, marking conquered territories with a sense of accomplishment. Remember, knowing your terrain is half the victory.

3. Assemble Your Crew: Resources and Study Materials

4. Chart the Waters: Strategic Planning

Plot your study timetable strategically. Divide your day into focused study sessions, incorporating breaks for rejuvenation. Identify your peak productivity hours—are you a dawn conqueror or a midnight marauder? Tailor your timetable to your unique rhythm.

5. Unleash the Cannons: Practice and Mock Tests

Engage in regular mock battles. Practice papers and previous years’ question papers are your cannons. They not only hone your skills but also reveal the weak spots in your fortress of knowledge. Treat each mock test as a dress rehearsal for the grand performance on exam day.

You can take engineering exam mock tests and practice previous year papers to understand every aspect of boosting your exam preparation.

6. Experiment with Alchemy: Problem-solving

Engineering exams love to throw curveballs. Develop alchemical problem-solving skills. Understand the underlying principles of each concept. Don’t just memorize; internalise. Tinker with problems, dissect them and emerge victorious.

Remember, every problem is a hidden opportunity.

7. Innovate and Iterate: Learn from Mistakes
