The IISER (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research) Aptitude Test is one of the country’s most critical national exams. Every year, the test is held for admission to IISER’s BS (Bachelor of Science) and BS-MS Dual degree programmes.

The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research is one of India’s most famous and well-known universities. Selection Process

Along with the official announcement, the exam conducting authority publishes the IISER aptitude test eligibility criteria. Before filling out the IISER entrance exam application form, applicants should ensure they meet the qualifying requirements. The eligibility criteria for the KVPY, SCB, and JEE (Advanced) channels are issued separately. The IISER Aptitude Test 2023 Cut-off is the minimum score necessary for admission to one of India’s seven Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) in the BS and BS-MS (Dual-Degree) programmes. IISER, a Technical Institute funded by the Central Government, accepts students through the KVPY, JEE-Advanced, State, and Central Boards channels (SCB).

Counselling for IISER 2023 will be done entirely online. Candidates seeking admission through the KVPY & JEE channels must complete an application form based on the number of seats available.

Candidates for the SCB channel must pass an aptitude test. Following that, applicants will be called for counselling depending on the institute’s cut-off marks. Candidates can download their call letters from the website after their seats are assigned. Candidates must submit certain documents and payments to the designated institutes to confirm their admission.

Stages of Exam

1. Filling up of application
   First, the candidate must fill out the Entrance Exam form and pay the application cost, INR 2000 for the general category, OBC NC, and INR 1000 for SC/ST, Kashmiri migrants, and persons with disabilities.
2. Download the admit card
   The candidate must then go to the official website and download the admit card for the IISER Entrance test. The exam centre’s information will also be included on the hall ticket.
   The exam conducting authority will disclose the results a few days after completion. The authority will reveal the results for each exam participant candidate in an individual manner on the internet.
3. Attending the examination

   From the first week of June 2023, candidates will be able to check their results. The results will be accessible on the exam conducting authority’s website. Candidates should keep their admit cards safe till the iiser admission process is completed.
5. Counselling process
   From the first week of June 2023, the exam conducting authority will conduct a counselling procedure for every qualified exam. The authority will perform the counselling process for each channel in separate rounds.
   Candidates will be assigned seats based on their performance in the entrance examinations. At the document verification round, candidates should bring their original documents.
   Candidates must go through the document verification process when reporting to the institute. The following is a list of documents that must be brought to the counselling session.

Exam pattern details - Total time

IISER conducts IAT in online mode as a computer-based test. Candidates will have an advantage of navigating through all the questions as well as sections at any time while attempting the exam. The total time of the examination will be 3 hours or 180 minutes. There will not be any sectional time divisions for each subject. But the exam should be attempted so as to cover all the four subjects in 3 hours or 180 minutes.

Exam Syllabus

The IISER Aptitude Test syllabus can be prescribed or amended by the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research.

All four sections of the IAT have an equal weightage of 15 multiple-choice questions, according to the IISER syllabus and test pattern (MCQs). Each IISER Aptitude Test is administered online, with candidates having three hours to complete the test. According to the marking scheme, each correct response receives 3 points, while each error receives 1 negative point. Exam Taking Strategy

There will be no time limit for each section of the IISER Aptitude Test. Candidates must, however, split the three hours of the exam evenly across the four portions, as each section has the same amount of questions (15) and marks (45).

   Half of the job is done when you have a well-thought-out strategy. Familiarise yourself with the exam schedule you’ll be taking. Calculate your time and make a study schedule.
2. Managing Your Time
   To succeed, you must manage your time carefully and intelligently. Separate some time for study, relaxation, and other activities in your daily routine to minimise confusion and distractions. Make the best possible use of your time.
3. Choose your subjects carefully.
   It is critical to select the subject in which you are most comfortable. Several students have described this as a critical step in achieving success.
4. Shorter Research
   Leaving studying till the last minute can only result in tension, weariness, and possibly confusion. Select the examination curriculum and assess your level of familiarity in each part before designing your study strategy.
5. Practice Papers
   It would be really beneficial to practise last year’s sample papers. This will give you a sense of the exam format and force you to practise within the time constraints. Solving practise test papers can also help you improve your speed and time management.
6. Perseverance
   Motivate yourself with the help of teachers, seniors, family members, and others. Keep in mind that motivation will always help you achieve your objectives.

Before starting the preparation for the IISER aptitude test, have a profound understanding of the entire syllabus for the examination. Understand which all chapters and topics are included in each subject. Also, learn about the exam pattern. How many questions from each topic, how much time for each subject and the marks allocated for each question when they are right and wrong. NCERT textbooks (class 11th & 12th) are the main source of questions in the IISER Aptitude Test. However, candidates can refer to other specialised books after preparing NCERT textbooks.

• Learn about the IISER Entrance Exam Scoring System.

Students should be familiar with the marking scheme in addition to the test pattern. It will be difficult to make your plan before you begin writing as soon as you receive the question paper if you are not familiar with the exam design and marking scheme. You must be aware of the smallest things since this will aid your preparation and increase your chances of scoring higher. Once you have the pattern in mind and know what to expect in terms of the marking scheme, you won’t have much issue.

Before starting the practice, the first step is to prepare a timetable. Go through the subjects and topics and analyse the time required to go through these topics. Prepare the timetable to cover all these topics and don’t forget to allocate time for the revision.

Aspirants should also obtain the needed books for the IISER Entrance Exam 2023 and the curriculum. One can test oneself by using prep books. Student Counselling

Applicants who have been shortlisted based on their IISER scores will be invited to participate in the counselling process. Applicants must first fill up the IISER 2023 choice form found on the official website. Based on the applicants’ choices, the exam conducting authority will release the IISER seat allotment result 2023. Candidates who have been shortlisted must report to their respective institutes for document verification.

Direct admissions will be offered to candidates who apply through the JEE Advanced or KVPY channels. The IISER aptitude exam 2023, a 3-hour multiple-choice paper with 60 questions, will be administered in an online format. Each of the three options of admission will have its own application process. Through IISER, admission is available to seven participating institutes.

Q1. I am a science student in class XII. Which IISER programmes may I apply to? 
A. Any student who has passed the Class XII (or equivalent) examination in the science stream in 2023 or 2022 is eligible to apply to the BS (four-year) degree / BS-MS (five-year) dual degree programmes in IISERs, providing they meet the eligibility conditions (please click here to know more about the eligibility criteria). The BS degree programme is currently solely offered at IISER Bhopal. In addition, students must have Mathematics as one of their subjects in class XII exams in order to apply to any of the BS degree programmes.

Q2. What is the number of seats available for the BS degree programme in 2023? 
A. Only IISER Bhopal now offers the BS degree programme. The overall number of seats available for the BS programme is estimated to be 115.

Q3. I am a bearer of an OCI/PIO card. Should I apply as a foreign candidate?
A. No. You should submit your application through our standard application platform. International students are individuals who are not Indian nationals by birth or naturalisation and do not fall into the PIO/OCI category, as well as those whose parents are not Indian citizens and do not fall into the PIO/OCI category at the time of application.

Q4. Will I get the IISER of my choice?
A. The allotment is based on the availability of seats in respective IISERs, your rank in the merit list, and your preferences.

Q5. My application has been submitted. I’d like to make a few changes to my application. So, what should I do now?
A. After you’ve submitted your application, you won’t be able to edit any of the information on the form.

Q1. Can I pay the application fees by Cash/DD/Cheque for the IISER aptitude test?
A. No. All payments will be accepted only through a secure online payment gateway on our application portal.

Q2. What should I do if I have paid the application fees for a single application many times? 
A. Your proof of payment should be sent to [email protected] with the subject line “Problem with the application fee.” Once the admissions process is completed, all legitimate refund claims will be processed.

Q3. What should I do if my application fees have already been paid, but the payment has been reversed?
A. Immediately inform them through email to [email protected] with the subject line of the email as “Problem with application fee”, or else the application may stand cancelled.

Q4. Do all candidates who are eligible for admission to IISERs receive offers?
A. No. Admission to IISERs is based on merit and the total number of available seats in relevant channels in various IISERs for each channel.

Q5. In which languages will the IISER Aptitude Test be conducted?
A. The computer-based test will be available in both Hindi and English.

Dos and Donts of Form Filling

There are three channels available for the admission into IISERs:

1. KVPY (Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana)
2. IIT-JEE (Advanced)
3. SCB (State and Central Boards).
    

Candidates must first complete the registration process on the application webpage. Then, using this registration account, one or more of the three channels’ application forms might be filled out. Each channel necessitates the submission of a separate online application and the payment of an application fee. Each channel through which the candidate wishes to apply must meet the candidate’s eligibility requirements.

Instructions for the Registration Process

1. To register, you’ll need a mobile phone number. The same number cannot be used for another registration and cannot be changed after registering.
2. To acquire a User ID and password, complete the registration form.
3. Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required.
4. To continue, fill in all essential information and click Submit.
5. Your User ID and password will be delivered to your registered mobile phone number and email address by SMS.
6. The first time you log in to the system using the credentials supplied to you, you should change your password.

If none of the other required documents is accessible, you must have the Class X mark sheet/certificate on hand for picture ID. Even if it doesn’t feature your photo, you can use it as a photo ID while filling out the application form. Seat Acceptance Fee

1. The SAF (Seat Acceptance Fee):

When candidates enter their own IISER dashboard, they will receive an offer letter (with SAF specified on it) if they are eligible according to the IISER seat allotment list. They must then pay the Seat Acceptance Fee in order to choose between theze and float alternatives. Candidates can only pay the SAF on the internet.

Candidates can participate in the Float option after making a successful payment. If a candidate does not participate in the first round, his or her application will be considered in the allocation of subsequent rounds. The initial allotment list will be released by officials. The institute will next announce the second-round allotment list.

The use of theze and float options is contingent on the mode of admission and the round of IISER admission counselling (as stated above).

Candidates are only able to select alternatives after they have paid the SAF.

When an applicant selects theze option, it means that they are pleased with the seat that has been assigned to them and does not want to participate in the further rounds of IISER admission counselling.

When a candidate uses the float option, it means they are happy with their allotment. They still have to take part in the upcoming round(s) in order to get a better allotment based on his/her preferences.

2. Policy on Withdrawals:

Candidates who have paid SAF for all admission channels are eligible for the float option(s). They can, however, withdraw their application using the application portal and receive a full refund for each channel until a specific period (check here). When a candidate withdraws their application, the seat becomes vacant, and a refund is issued according to the return procedure.

Policy on Refunds

Note that there are no refunds for the application cost.

The following is the refund policy for the Seat Acceptance Fee:

1. The withdrawal window will remain open as long as that admission channel’s allocation continues.
2. If a candidate gets selected through the KVPY/JEE/SCB route and withdraws their claim to a seat before the JAC deadline, there will be no cancellation charge.
3. If you withdraw after the deadline, you will be charged a cancellation fee of Rs. 10,000 (or Rs. 5000 for SC/ST candidates).
4. How to withdraw your seat/offer: Using their login credentials, the candidate can withdraw their seat/offer by pressing the “Withdraw your Seat” button on the allocation portal.
5. If the application is not withdrawn in an aforementioned manner and on or before the withdrawal date, IISERs and JAC are not accountable for any losses incurred.
6. Until the channel-specific withdrawal deadline, withdrawals can only be made online using the counselling portal. There are no additional options for withdrawal.
7. The money due will be reimbursed to the credit card, debit card, or bank account used to pay the SAF once the candidate has withdrawn the offer through the counselling site. Such applicants are not required to take any more procedures to receive their SAF refund. The refund process would begin concurrently with the allocation, but it could two weeks to receive the funds.
8. Suppose the candidate fails to join in person (or via online mode as defined by the relevant IISER) on the joining date specified in the respective IISER’s offer letter. In that case, the cancellation fee determined by the concerned IISER will apply. Candidates who have paid the SAF but do not appear at the concerned IISER by the last day for payment of the admission fee will not be considered for future admission rounds. In addition, such candidates will be prohibited from future admission to IISERs (for BS-MS and/or BS programmes).
9. If a candidate decides to drop out after enrolling in a specific IISER, the refund procedure of that IISER will apply.

Dos and Don’ts of Form Filling

• Only applications submitted online via the IISER websites will be considered. There will be no other method of application submission approved.
• Each candidate should only fill out one application. If a candidate submits several applications in response to this notification, they may be disqualified and barred.
• Candidates are encouraged to submit an online application far ahead of the deadline to avoid a last-minute rush since the IISER exam website may be unavailable or unavailable owing to high traffic on the internet or website in recent days.
• The IISER examination board has the right to reject a candidate’s candidature at any point during the recruitment process if they find any irregularity or error in the application.
• Acceptance or rejection of applications based on eligibility, alteration of openings, disciplinary action for incorrect information, manner of selection, assignment of examination centres, selection, allotment of posts to selected candidates, and so on are all decided by the IISER board. The candidates will be bound by this decision.

Age Criteria

Before filling out the application form, candidates should verify the IISER’s eligibility conditions. The IISER 2023 application process entails registering, filling out an application form, uploading papers, and paying a fee. IISER aptitude test applications will be released separately for the KVPY, SCB, and JEE(Advanced) channels.

The exam conducting authority publishes the IISER aptitude test eligibility criteria along with the official announcement. The eligibility criteria for the KVPY, SCB, and JEE(Advanced) channels are issued separately.

The following are the requirements that a candidate must meet to take the IISER Entrance Exam:

Indian nationals who are 

• Person of Indian Origin
• Overseas Citizenship of India

As admission to IISER is done in three ways, a candidate must meet the prerequisites for any of the three options mentioned below.

• State and Central Boards (SCB) Channel
• Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) Channel
• Joint Entrance Examination of Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT-JEE) Channel

For KVPY, candidates must hold a KVPY fellowship that begins in the academic year 2023-24.

For JEE Advanced, general category candidates must have obtained a rank in JEE Advanced within the time limit set by the official authorities.

SCB: For IISER admissions in 2023, the appropriate authorities will set the minimal cut-off that an applicant must meet. The IISER aptitude exam 2023 must be taken by all candidates applying through this channel.

Education Qualification

Candidates who passed a 10+2 or equivalent level science exam in 2023 or 2022 from any board recognised by the Council of Boards of School Education in India (COBSE) and scored within the category-wise cut-off are only eligible to apply to IISER through the following three channels:

(1) Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) channel

(2) Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Advanced) of the Indian Institutes of Technology

(3) State and Central Boards Channel (SCB)

KVPY, JEE, and SCB will be the names of these channels, respectively.

The following changes to the qualifying criteria for admission to IISERs’ BS-MS and BS programmes were made in 2023 as a result of Covid-19 and will be continued in 2023:

The cut-off marks in (10+2) as eligibility for admissions is: 

• 60% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade for GEN/OBC and OBC-NCL categories and 
• 55% for SC/ST/PWD in any recognized board.

Indian nationals and students belonging to PIO or OCI category are eligible to apply through any channel provided they satisfy the eligibility criteria described below.

KVPY Channel

Candidates with a valid KVPY fellowship for the academic year 2023-24 are eligible to apply for admission. Additional cut-off criteria for marks acquired in the 10+2 board examination are also included.

JEE-Advanced Channel

Candidates must have a rank in the common rank list (for candidates belonging to the GEN/OBC categories) or the corresponding category rank lists (for candidates belonging to the GEN-EWS/OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PWD categories) of JEE to be eligible for admission via the IIT-JEE (Advanced) channel. Additional cut-off criteria for marks acquired in the 10+2 board examination are also included. For GEN/OBC and OBC-NCL categories, the cut-off marks in (10+2) as eligibility for admissions are 60% in aggregate or equivalent grade, and 55% for SC/ST/PWD in any recognised board.

SCB Channel 

Students who completed the 10+2 level with a scientific stream in 2023 or 2022 from any COBSE-accredited board can apply for admissions and take the IAT 2023. They will, however, be considered for admission to degree programmes only if they meet the stipulated cut-off marks. Students who apply through the SCB route must take the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT), held at various locations throughout the country.

Performance Criteria For IISER Admission 2023 In Class XII (Or Equivalent) Board Examination:

1. To be eligible for admission to IISERs, a candidate must have scored within the category-wise cut-offs shown above in their respective Class XII (or equivalent) Board exams.
2. The better of two results will be considered for candidates who took the Class XII (or equivalent) Board examination for the first time in 2023 and returned in any subject (for whatever reason) in 2023.
3. In the 10+2 system, only Class XII results will be counted if a Board awards aggregate scores based on both Class XI and Class XII examinations. Only the marks earned in the final year of a 3-year diploma or courses of equal duration will be considered if a Board awards aggregate marks based on the outcomes of all three years of a 3-year diploma or courses of equivalent duration. Similarly, for boards that use a semester system, the final two semesters’ grades will be considered.
4. If a Board only distributes letter grades and does not include an equivalent percentage of marks on the grade sheet, the candidate should request and submit a certificate from the Board indicating the comparable marks before the mark-sheet submission deadline.
   If the Board does not offer such a certificate, meeting minimum qualifying conditions will be assessed as follows: If the CGPA/CPI is reported on a scale other than ten (for example, a four-point or eight-point scale), an equivalent CGPA/CPI is calculated using the formula:
   CGPA/CPI in a 10 point scale = (CGPA/CPI Obtained×10)/PS.
   Finally, out of 500, the marks will be linearly scaled. (The PS stands for the Board’s point scale.)
5. You can still apply and take the aptitude test if your Class XII results have not yet been released.
   However, you will only be considered for admission if you meet the minimum requirements. Candidates whose Class 10+2 (or equivalent) examination results are pending at the time of application submission can select the “Result Awaited” option when filling out the qualifying exam result section. They must, however, upload their mark sheets, category certificates, and fill out topic information and marks on the application portal. The tentative dates for uploading the mark sheet can be found in the Important Dates section in order to complete the application:

Number of Attempts

A candidate can appear for the IISER aptitude test only TWICE in their lifetime, although there is no specific age limit.

Language Proficiency

The IISER aptitude test is conducted in Hindi and English.

Admit Card Release Date

A few days before the exam, the exam conducting authorities will distribute the IISER aptitude test admit card 2023. Through their login credentials, candidates can download the IISER 2023 admission card. The admit card for IISER 2023 contains information such as the candidate’s personal information, exam date, time, and exam day instructions, among other things. Candidates taking the IISER entrance exam must bring their admit card and a valid photo ID. Applicants must inform the exam authority if there is a discrepancy on their IISER admit card before the exam begins.

Admit Card Release Date

Once the application process is completed, IISER releases admit cards to appear for the examination. You can download the admit card by logging into your candidate’s profile and print the issued admit card and take it to the examination centre.

Expected Cut-off

IISER is open to students who have completed their 10+2 exams in the Science stream in 2022 or 2023. However, they must have received marks equal to or greater than the cut-off based on the board.

Candidates interested in applying through the SCB Channel must take the IISER Entrance Exam 2023.

Previous Year Cut-off

The candidates’ class 12 marks should fall within the respective boards’ cut-offs (generally, top 20 percentile). When cut-off board scores are unavailable, CBSE board cut-off scores will be used instead. Additionally, students must have a minimum of 75% for GEN/PWD/OBC-NCL and 65% for SC/ST/PWD in class XII or equivalent test to be admitted to the engineering programme through the JEE-Advanced channel. Channel Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY)

IISER 2023 admissions are open to those who have a valid KVPY fellowship starting in the 2023-24 academic year. On the other hand, such applicants are not required to take the 2023 IISER admission exam.

IIT-JEE (Indian Institutes of Technology Joint Entrance Examination) Channel

IISER admissions are open to candidates in the general category who have achieved a rank of 10,000 on the JEE Advanced Common Rank List (CRL). Candidates that apply through the KVPY channel will be required to take the IISER entrance exam, although they will not be required to take it.

Note that the rank requirements for OBC NC, SC, ST, and PwD candidates will differ.

Actual Cut-off

In regards to the IISER Admissions cut-off marks, PwD applicants’ cut-off marks will be the same as the lowest of the GEN, OBC-NCL, SC, and ST categories’ cut-off marks.

Because candidates who qualify for Class XII or equivalent during either (or both) 2023 and 2022 will only be evaluated for the academic year 2023.

Result Declaration

When the exam is finished, the exam administrators will upload the IISER preliminary answer key on the official website. In the answer key, applicants will be able to raise complaints. After examining all of the objections, the exam authorities will publish the IISER entrance exam final answer key along with the results on the official website. Applicants will be able to access their IISER aptitude exam result 2023 using their login credentials. The Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) will publish the IISER 2023 results online. The IISER results will be released in the first week of June 2023. Candidates can access their results by logging in using their email addresses and password. Qualified candidates can undergo counselling and additional admission processes after examining the results.

Result Declaration

When the outcome is announced, the counselling procedure begins at the same time. IISER assists each channel’s counselling process in its own way. During the counselling procedure, candidates must fill out their preferences as well as the institute they wish to attend.

The seats are distributed depending on the candidates’ choices and the merit list. After the successful conversion of the seat, the candidate has to attend for the admission procedure along with the original documents mentioned for the successful completion of admission.

Q1. I am a science student in class XII. Which IISER programmes may I apply to?
A. Any student who has passed the Class XII (or equivalent) examination in the science stream in 2023 or 2022 is eligible to apply to the BS (four-year) degree / BS-MS (five-year) dual degree programmes in IISERs, providing they meet the eligibility conditions (please click here to know more about the eligibility criteria). The BS degree programme is currently solely offered at IISER Bhopal. Q1. I am a science student in class XII. Which IISER programmes may I apply to?
A. Any student who has passed the Class XII (or equivalent) examination in the science stream in 2023 or 2022 is eligible to apply to the BS (four-year) degree / BS-MS (five-year) dual degree programmes in IISERs, providing they meet the eligibility conditions (please click here to know more about the eligibility criteria). The BS degree programme is currently solely offered at IISER Bhopal. In addition, students must have Mathematics as one of their subjects in class XII exams in order to apply to any of the BS degree programmes.

Q2. I am an international board class XII science student studying in India. Is it possible for me to apply?
A. Students from all Indian boards, including overseas school boards, are eligible to apply.

Q3. Which institution awards the BS-MS degree?
A. Each IISER is an autonomous institution. As a result, individual IISERs awards the degree.

Q4. Do I have to apply for each IISER separately?
A. No. Students are admitted to all IISERs using the same admission process. All IISERs share a single application form.

Q5. What are the different channels available for the admission to IISERs?
A. There are three channels available for admission into IISERs

1. KVPY (Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana)
2. IIT-JEE (Advanced)
3. SCB (State and Central Boards).

Q6. Do we need to apply separately for each channel?
A. Yes. Candidates must first complete the registration process on the application webpage. Then, using this registration account, one or more of the three channels’ application forms might be filled out. Each channel necessitates the submission of a separate online application as well as the payment of an application fee. Each channel through which the candidate wishes to apply must meet the candidate’s eligibility requirements.

Q7. What is the required percentage/cut off marks in class XII or equivalent for getting admission to IISERs?
A. In class XII or comparable test, the required percentage is 60 percent aggregate or equivalent grade for GEN/OBC/OBC-NCL and 55 percent aggregate or equivalent grade for SC/ST/PWD.

Q8. What is the application fees for the IISER aptitude test?
A. Candidates applying under the General, EWS, and OBC-NCL categories must pay a non-refundable application fee of Rs.2,000, while Persons with Disabilities and SC/ST candidates must pay Rs.1,000. For foreign nationals, the application cost is USD 100.

Q9. Is it possible to apply for the IISER aptitude test while my XII exam results are pending?
A. Yes, you are eligible to apply and take the aptitude test. However, you will only be considered for admission if you meet the minimum requirements.
