The IISER (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research) Aptitude Test is one of the country’s most critical national exams. Every year, the test is held for admission to IISER’s BS (Bachelor of Science) and BS-MS Dual degree programmes.
The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research is one of India’s most famous and well-known universities. The Indian government has created IISER in places like Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram, and Tirupati to integrate and promote quality science and research education. Over the years, students have expressed interest in attending the institute. However, entrance to this university is not a cakewalk; students must pass the IISER Entrance exam to get admitted to any of the IISER campuses. This is why IISER administers the IAT (IISER Aptitude Test) to students seeking admission to various fields.
The Indian government has established the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram, and Tirupati to integrate and encourage interdisciplinary Science education and research. IISERs have been effective in drawing great young brains over the years. The IISERs’ primary purpose is to empower students to build the nation by discovering and executing long-term solutions to social challenges through scientific research. Along with the official announcement, the exam conducting authority publishes the IISER aptitude test eligibility criteria. Before filling out the IISER entrance exam application form, applicants should ensure they meet the qualifying requirements. The eligibility criteria for the KVPY, SCB, and JEE (Advanced) channels are issued separately. The IISER Aptitude Test 2023 Cut-off is the minimum score necessary for admission to one of India’s seven Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) in the BS and BS-MS (Dual-Degree) programmes. IISER, a Technical Institute funded by the Central Government, accepts students through the KVPY, JEE-Advanced, State, and Central Boards channels (SCB).

Counselling for IISER 2023 will be done entirely online. Candidates seeking admission through the KVPY & JEE channels must complete an application form based on the number of seats available.
Candidates for the SCB channel must pass an aptitude test. Following that, applicants will be called for counselling depending on the institute’s cut-off marks. Candidates can download their call letters from the website after their seats are assigned. Candidates must submit certain documents and payments to the designated institutes to confirm their admission.
Along with the originals, candidates must bring at least two copies of the documents mentioned earlier.

There will be 15 questions from each subject or section, altogether 60 questions. Three marks will be awarded for every correct answer. There will be negative markings in the IISER aptitude test. There will be 15 questions from each subject or section, altogether of 60 questions. There will not be any choice of answering the questions. All questions from all the subjects are compulsory.

IISER conducts IAT in online mode as a computer-based test. Candidates will have an advantage of navigating through all the questions as well as sections at any time while attempting the exam. The total time of the examination will be 3 hours or 180 minutes. There will not be any sectional time divisions for each subject. But the exam should be attempted so as to cover all the four subjects in 3 hours or 180 minutes.

The IISER Aptitude Test syllabus can be prescribed or amended by the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research.
All four sections of the IAT have an equal weightage of 15 multiple-choice questions, according to the IISER syllabus and test pattern (MCQs). Each IISER Aptitude Test is administered online, with candidates having three hours to complete the test. According to the marking scheme, each correct response receives 3 points, while each error receives 1 negative point. The candidate must comprehend the format of the IISER Entrance Exam. The time of the exam, the style and medium of the entrance exam, the number of questions that will be asked, and the weightage of the scores should all be known.
Will the questions be in the MCQ type, or will there be lengthy answer questions? How many sections will there be, and which one will be the most difficult? Students should be familiar with the marking scheme in addition to the test pattern. It will be difficult to make your plan before you begin writing as soon as you receive the question paper if you are not familiar with the exam design and marking scheme. You must be aware of the smallest things since this will aid your preparation and increase your chances of scoring higher. Once you have the pattern in mind and know what to expect in terms of the marking scheme, you won’t have much issue.
The major portions covered in the syllabus of IISER aptitude test is from the 11th and 12th syllabus. So, the first preparation has to be started with revising those topics. Once the 11th and 12th syllabus is totally covered, the rest of the practice will be easy.
While going through each topic, prepare quick notes for your reference. These short notes will be helpful in the last minute revision before the exam.
For succeeding in any exam, adequate planning is essential. You should plan and strategise the preparation based on your strengths and weaknesses. Before starting the practice, the first step is to prepare a timetable. Go through the subjects and topics and analyse the time required to go through these topics. Prepare the timetable to cover all these topics and don’t forget to allocate time for the revision.
Aspirants should also obtain the needed books for the IISER Entrance Exam 2023 and the curriculum. One can test oneself by using prep books. You’ll be able to see where you’re weak and where you’re strong. To better comprehend the test, it is recommended that you obtain at least two to three prep books. The prep materials will provide you with an overview of the syllabus and information on the types of questions that may be asked on the admission exam.

Applicants who have been shortlisted based on their IISER scores will be invited to participate in the counselling process. Applicants must first fill up the IISER 2023 choice form found on the official website. Based on the applicants’ choices, the exam conducting authority will release the IISER seat allotment result 2023. Candidates who have been shortlisted must report to their respective institutes for document verification.
Direct admissions will be offered to candidates who apply through the JEE Advanced or KVPY channels. The IISER aptitude exam 2023, a 3-hour multiple-choice paper with 60 questions, will be administered in an online format. Each of the three options of admission will have its own application process. Through IISER, admission is available to seven participating institutes.
Q1. I am a science student in class XII. Which IISER programmes may I apply to?
A. Any student who has passed the Class XII (or equivalent) examination in the science stream in 2023 or 2022 is eligible to apply to the BS (four-year) degree / BS-MS (five-year) dual degree programmes in IISERs, providing they meet the eligibility conditions (please click here to know more about the eligibility criteria). The BS degree programme is currently solely offered at IISER Bhopal. In addition, students must have Mathematics as one of their subjects in class XII exams in order to apply to any of the BS degree programmes.
Q2. What is the number of seats available for the BS degree programme in 2023?
A. Only IISER Bhopal now offers the BS degree programme. The overall number of seats available for the BS programme is estimated to be 115.
Q3. I am a bearer of an OCI/PIO card. Should I apply as a foreign candidate?
A. No. You should submit your application through our standard application platform. International students are individuals who are not Indian nationals by birth or naturalisation and do not fall into the PIO/OCI category, as well as those whose parents are not Indian citizens and do not fall into the PIO/OCI category at the time of application.
Q4. Will I get the IISER of my choice?
A. The allotment is based on the availability of seats in respective IISERs, your rank in the merit list, and your preferences.
Q5. My application has been submitted. I’d like to make a few changes to my application. So, what should I do now?
A. After you’ve submitted your application, you won’t be able to edit any of the information on the form.
Q1. Can I pay the application fees by Cash/DD/Cheque for the IISER aptitude test?
A. No. All payments will be accepted only through a secure online payment gateway on our application portal.
Q2. What should I do if I have paid the application fees for a single application many times?
A. Your proof of payment should be sent to ask-jac2023@iisermohali.ac.in with the subject line “Problem with the application fee.” Once the admissions process is completed, all legitimate refund claims will be processed.
Q3. What should I do if my application fees have already been paid, but the payment has been reversed?
A. Immediately inform them through email to ask-jac2023@iisermohali.ac.in with the subject line of the email as “Problem with application fee”, or else the application may stand cancelled.
Q4. Do all candidates who are eligible for admission to IISERs receive offers?
A. No. Admission to IISERs is based on merit and the total number of available seats in relevant channels in various IISERs for each channel.

There are three channels available for the admission into IISERs:
Candidates must first complete the registration process on the application webpage. Then, using this registration account, one or more of the three channels’ application forms might be filled out. Each channel necessitates the submission of a separate online application and the payment of an application fee. Each channel through which the candidate wishes to apply must meet the candidate’s eligibility requirements.
The application form for the IISER aptitude exam 2023 will be available soon on the official website of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research. Before filling out the application form, candidates should review the IISER aptitude test qualifying requirements 2023. The IISER entrance test process entails registering, filling out an application form, submitting documents, and paying a fee. Applicants who submit their applications before the deadline will access the IISER 2023 admission card a few days before the exam. The final step is to pay the IISER aptitude test application fee using a debit card, credit card, or net banking in the internet mode. All payments will be accepted only through our application portal’s secure online payment gateway.

If none of the other required documents is accessible, you must have the Class X mark sheet/certificate on hand for picture ID. Even if it doesn’t feature your photo, you can use it as a photo ID while filling out the application form. When candidates enter their own IISER dashboard, they will receive an offer letter (with SAF specified on it) if they are eligible according to the IISER seat allotment list. They must then pay the Seat Acceptance Fee in order to choose between theze and float alternatives. Candidates can only pay the SAF on the internet.

Candidates can participate in the Float option after making a successful payment. If a candidate does not participate in the first round, his or her application will be considered in the allocation of subsequent rounds. The initial allotment list will be released by officials. The institute will next announce the second-round allotment list.
The use of theze and float options is contingent on the mode of admission and the round of IISER admission counselling (as stated above).
Candidates are only able to select alternatives after they have paid the SAF.
When an applicant selects theze option, it means that they are pleased with the seat that has been assigned to them and does not want to participate in the further rounds of IISER admission counselling.
When a candidate uses the float option, it means they are happy with their allotment. They still have to take part in the upcoming round(s) in order to get a better allotment based on his/her preferences.
Candidates who have paid SAF for all admission channels are eligible for the float option(s). They can, however, withdraw their application using the application portal and receive a full refund for each channel until a specific period (check here). When a candidate withdraws their application, the seat becomes vacant, and a refund is issued according to the return procedure.
Note that there are no refunds for the application cost.

As admission to IISER is done in three ways, a candidate must meet the prerequisites for any of the three options mentioned below.
For KVPY, candidates must hold a KVPY fellowship that begins in the academic year 2023-24.
For JEE Advanced, general category candidates must have obtained a rank in JEE Advanced within the time limit set by the official authorities.
SCB: For IISER admissions in 2023, the appropriate authorities will set the minimal cut-off that an applicant must meet. The IISER aptitude exam 2023 must be taken by all candidates applying through this channel.
Candidates who passed a 10+2 or equivalent level science exam in 2023 or 2022 from any board recognised by the Council of Boards of School Education in India (COBSE) and scored within the category-wise cut-off are only eligible to apply to IISER through the following three channels:
(1) Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) channel
(2) Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Advanced) of the Indian Institutes of Technology
(3) State and Central Boards Channel (SCB)
KVPY, JEE, and SCB will be the names of these channels, respectively.
The following changes to the qualifying criteria for admission to IISERs’ BS-MS and BS programmes were made in 2023 as a result of Covid-19 and will be continued in 2023:
The cut-off marks in (10+2) as eligibility for admissions is:
Indian nationals and students belonging to PIO or OCI category are eligible to apply through any channel provided they satisfy the eligibility criteria described below.
Candidates with a valid KVPY fellowship for the academic year 2023-24 are eligible to apply for admission. Additional cut-off criteria for marks acquired in the 10+2 board examination are also included.
Candidates must have a rank in the common rank list (for candidates belonging to the GEN/OBC categories) or the corresponding category rank lists (for candidates belonging to the GEN-EWS/OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PWD categories) of JEE to be eligible for admission via the IIT-JEE (Advanced) channel. Additional cut-off criteria for marks acquired in the 10+2 board examination are also included. For GEN/OBC and OBC-NCL categories, the cut-off marks in (10+2) as eligibility for admissions are 60% in aggregate or equivalent grade, and 55% for SC/ST/PWD in any recognised board.
Students who completed the 10+2 level with a scientific stream in 2023 or 2022 from any COBSE-accredited board can apply for admissions and take the IAT 2023. They will, however, be considered for admission to degree programmes only if they meet the stipulated cut-off marks. Students who apply through the SCB route must take the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT), held at various locations throughout the country.
A candidate can appear for the IISER aptitude test only TWICE in their lifetime, although there is no specific age limit.
The IISER aptitude test is conducted in Hindi and English.
A few days before the exam, the exam conducting authorities will distribute the IISER aptitude test admit card 2023. Through their login credentials, candidates can download the IISER 2023 admission card. The admit card for IISER 2023 contains information such as the candidate’s personal information, exam date, time, and exam day instructions, among other things. Candidates taking the IISER entrance exam must bring their admit card and a valid photo ID. Applicants must inform the exam authority if there is a discrepancy on their IISER admit card before the exam begins.
Once the application process is completed, IISER releases admit cards to appear for the examination. You can download the admit card by logging into your candidate’s profile and print the issued admit card and take it to the examination centre.

IISER is open to students who have completed their 10+2 exams in the Science stream in 2022 or 2023. However, they must have received marks equal to or greater than the cut-off based on the board.
Candidates interested in applying through the SCB Channel must take the IISER Entrance Exam 2023.
The candidates’ class 12 marks should fall within the respective boards’ cut-offs (generally, top 20 percentile). When cut-off board scores are unavailable, CBSE board cut-off scores will be used instead. Additionally, students must have a minimum of 75% for GEN/PWD/OBC-NCL and 65% for SC/ST/PWD in class XII or equivalent test to be admitted to the engineering programme through the JEE-Advanced channel. The cut-off points from the prior year are listed here. When the link for 2023 becomes available, it will be updated.

IISER 2023 admissions are open to those who have a valid KVPY fellowship starting in the 2023-24 academic year. On the other hand, such applicants are not required to take the 2023 IISER admission exam.
IISER admissions are open to candidates in the general category who have achieved a rank of 10,000 on the JEE Advanced Common Rank List (CRL). Candidates that apply through the KVPY channel will be required to take the IISER entrance exam, although they will not be required to take it.
Note that the rank requirements for OBC NC, SC, ST, and PwD candidates will differ.
In the CRL (Common Rank List) of the JEE Advanced examination in 2023, the IISER Aptitude Test Cut-off for JEE channel (general category) was under 10000 ranks.

In regards to the IISER Admissions cut-off marks, PwD applicants’ cut-off marks will be the same as the lowest of the GEN, OBC-NCL, SC, and ST categories’ cut-off marks.
Because candidates who qualify for Class XII or equivalent during either (or both) 2023 and 2022 will only be evaluated for the academic year 2023.
When the exam is finished, the exam administrators will upload the IISER preliminary answer key on the official website. In the answer key, applicants will be able to raise complaints. After examining all of the objections, the exam authorities will publish the IISER entrance exam final answer key along with the results on the official website. Applicants will be able to access their IISER aptitude exam result 2023 using their login credentials. The Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) will publish the IISER 2023 results online. The IISER results will be released in the first week of June 2023. Candidates can access their results by logging in using their email addresses and password. Qualified candidates can undergo counselling and additional admission processes after examining the results.
When the outcome is announced, the counselling procedure begins at the same time. IISER assists each channel’s counselling process in its own way. During the counselling procedure, candidates must fill out their preferences as well as the institute they wish to attend.
The seats are distributed depending on the candidates’ choices and the merit list. After the successful conversion of the seat, the candidate has to attend for the admission procedure along with the original documents mentioned for the successful completion of admission.
