IIT Courses after 12th and Graduation: Eligibility Criteria
The officials prescribe the eligibility criteria that all candidates are required to fulfil to get admission into the IIT offered courses. The eligibility conditions will differ for UG and PG courses. Check below the eligibility criteria for admission. This does not include IITM online degrees.
B.Tech and Dual Programs
Admissions to the above courses at IITs are based on two engineering entrance exams and a joint counselling process.
The aspirants will need to qualify for JEE Main, and JEE advanced for admission.
JoSAA counselling will be held for seat allotment to various IITs.
M.Tech
The candidates need to have a qualified Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).
A Bachelor Degree holder in Engineering from a recognised institute is eligible to apply.
The aspirants in the final year of such programs will also be able to apply for GATE.
Specialisation for the Courses Offered by The Indian Institutes of Technology
The IITs, collectively, offer B.Tech, M.Tech, Dual Degree and PhD programs in more than 100 specialisations. Every year, more than 90 per cent of candidates who qualify for JEE Advanced opt for this engineering specialisation at the UG level. According to the AISHE Report 2017-18, engineering is one of the top three streams, with the maximum number of students enrolling on the discipline. The report declares Engineering and Technology to be the third major stream, with over 40.19 lakh students enrolled.
There are 17 specialisations in the stream like Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, etc. Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering constitute the top five IIT subjects of Engineering, with Computer Science Engineering having the maximum number of students enrolled on the course. The candidates need to qualify for JEE Main and advanced for admission to the B.Tech program. The selection to M.Tech will be based on the GATE score. During JoSAA counselling, the IITs release round-wise and category-wise cut-offs for admissions to B.Tech and Dual Degree programs.
