JEE Main Reservation Criteria 2022: National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the JEE Main reservation policy along with its information brochure. The candidates belonging to categories EWS, SC, ST, OBC-NCL, and PwD, can check the JEE Main 2022 reservation criteria on the JEE Main official website. Admission to engineering colleges will begin after the declaration of JEE Main 2022 result and will be permissible based on the set JEE Main reservation criterion governed by NTA and JAB.

  1. The reservation criteria follow the rules of allocation of seats that the Government of India decides.
  2. The state-wise engineering colleges accepting JEE Main scores will follow the state-wise JEE Main reservation rules.
  3. Reservation criteria for admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFITs will be applicable to those candidates whose names are present in the central list published by the Government of India.

JEE Main Reservation System 2022 for Women Applicants

The JEE Main 2022 reservation criteria for women candidates are as under:

  1. Almost all engineering colleges in India reserve a minimum of 5% of seats for women. To avail of this policy, JEE Main female applicants should apply under the women’s quota system.
  2. JEE Main female applicants who fall under the PwD category will get an additional 3% reservation in top engineering colleges in India.

JEE Main Reservation 2022 Region-wise

There are two types of reservation policies for the state of residence, and they are listed below:

  1. Home State Quota – This reservation policy of JEE Main applies only to candidates who have cleared their Class 12 or equivalent exam from the particular state.
  2. Other State Quota – This reservation policy applies to JEE Main candidates who are applying from other states and union territories, apart from the home state.

JEE Main 2022 Reservation Criteria for OBC Category

There is a list of other backward classes on the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) website. This list is known as the Central list, which must be followed under JEE Main reservation criteria 2022. Candidates who fall under this list will be selecting the option of reserved category of OBC while filling the JEE Main 2022 application form. At the same time, candidates who fall under the OBC list as per the list of their respective states will have to choose the General category.

Persons With Disability (PwD) Under JEE Main 2022 Reservation Criteria

Candidates with more than 40% specified disability as certified by the competent authority can claim for the JEE Main reservation criteria 2022.

Candidates who are suffering from one of the below can be considered to be listed under the PwD category:

  1. If a candidate is suffering from low vision or is blind.
  2. If a candidate is hard of hearing or deaf.
  3. If the candidates are suffering from disabilities of bones, joints or muscles, which is leading to substantial restriction of the movement of their limbs. This includes candidates who have been cured of leprosy or are suffering from cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, acid attack victims and dwarfism.
  4. Candidates who have Autism, any specific learning disability, mental illness or intellectual disability can also be classified as PwD.
  5. Other than the ones listed above, candidates can be suffering from other specified disabilities or multiple disabilities to be classified as persons with disabilities.

JEE Main Reservation Criteria 2022 for NITs

The National Institutes of Technology (NITs) offer admission to 50% of seats on the Home State Quota basis and the remaining 50% on the other state quota basis.

Note: For States and Union Territories without NIT, the following NITs will be considered as their state quota.

For NIT Goa and NIT Warangal, the reservation criteria are as under:

NIT Warangal:

  1. Home State Quota – Candidates whose home state is Telangana can apply for admission under this quota.
  2. Other State Quota – Candidates from Andhra Pradesh and other states can apply for admission under this quota.
  3. Andhra Pradesh Quota – Candidates whose home state is Andhra Pradesh can apply for admission under this quota.

NIT Goa:

  1. Home State Quota – 40% of those candidates will be considered whose home quota state is Goa, and in case there are vacant seats, 10% of seats will be filled by candidates from Daman and Diu, Dadar and Nagar Haveli and Lakshadweep.
  2. Other State Quota – Candidates who belong to Daman and Diu, Dadar and Nagar Haveli and Lakshadweep can apply for admission under this quota.

What is the Method To Claim JEE Main Reservation 2022?

Here are the details of the method to claim JEE Main Reservation 2022:

  1. Candidates can claim for JEE Main reservation criteria while filling up the JEE Main 2022 application form. In the application form, candidates must enter their category in the personal details tab. In addition, candidates should also fill out the other fields in the application form.
  2. After filling out the application form, candidates must submit valid proof of their reservation, such as a caste certificate and other supporting documents, if and as required.
  3. Candidates who cannot submit the reservation proof will be considered unreserved and belong to the General category.

Documents Required for JEE Main Reservation in Engineering Colleges 2022

Candidates who apply under reservation criteria must submit the following documents:

  1. Category certificate issued by the competent authority under the Government of India.
  2. Candidates belonging to the SC or ST categories should produce the caste certificate.
  3. A disability certificate should be submitted by the candidates who fall under the PwD category.

There are various institutions recognised at a national level in which candidates aim to get admission after qualifying for the JEE Main examinations. Some of these institutions listed below have their criteria for a reservation:

  1. Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) – The consortium of Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) comes under the Central Government of India. While admitting the candidates into the undergraduate engineering programmes, the colleges follow the All India Quota (AIQ).
  2. National Institutes of Technology (NITs) – The National Institutes of Technology (NITs) offer admissions to candidates in the undergraduate engineering programmes based on state quotas and other state quotas.
  3. Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) – In CFTIs, admissions for undergraduate engineering courses are made based on the All India Quota. Some exceptions are Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi and IIEST Shibpur, in which home state quota and other state quotas are applicable. The Assam University, Silchar is another exception in which the home state quota is applicable for candidates belonging to Assam and candidates from the other states are considered on an all-India basis.
  4. Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) – Candidates get admitted to the UG programmes of IIITs based on all India quotas, home state quotas and other state quotas.
