JEE Advanced 2024

About Exam

JEE Advanced is an entrance exam conducted in India for aspirants seeking admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Also known as IIT JEE, it is a computer-based test (CBT) held yearly by one of the seven zonal IITs: IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Roorkee and IIT Madras. The concerned IIT conducts two papers, i.e. Paper 1 and 2, to test aspirants’ knowledge and skills.

JEE Advanced is considered one of the most challenging exams conducted throughout the country, with a qualification rate of 26.17%—as per a 2022 report. In each of the 23 IITs, including the Indian Institute of Space Technology (IIST), seven Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISERs), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE), and several other universities provide admission to several programs based on JEE Advanced scores.

JEE Advanced 2024 Online Registration

Study Plan to Maximise Score

The decided IIT will begin the JEE Advanced 2024 registration process on April 21, 2024. Aspirants have been notified about the registration process through the official website of IIT JEE, i.e., jeeadv.ac.in.

JEE Adv. 2024 Study Plan

Students may prepare for JEE Advanced exam through the following:

a) Regular study through test books that are suggested in the section “Study Plan to Maximize Score” section) above and revise in a planned manner.

b) JEE Advanced syllabus covers chapters from both 11th and 12th standards. This being one of the most difficult exams to crack, the students should start preparing well in advance. Ideally, a student should start preparing for JEE Advanced right from the beginning of class 11.

c) In normal circumstances, all the central / state board exams for class 12 will be over by March/April. Out of the 4 stages of the JEE mains Exams, a student had the opportunity to write the JEE Mains Exam twice before the board exam. After the 12th board exam, the student now has to effectively utilise the rest of the time through April, May, June, and July for the preparation of the next two phases of JEE Mains, followed by JEE Advanced Exam. Hence, after the 12th board exam, the student must prepare more intensely and focussed.

d) Last 30 days are very important for every student. By that time, the basic preparation for all the subjects is over. Now, the time has come for students in the last 30 days to handle many things at the same time as

i) memorising and remembering all the formulas/data/facts and figures,
ii) revising the whole syllabus,
iii) Strengthening the portions of the syllabus the student is feeling still remained weak. It becomes a very hard and confusing situation for most of the students to make a balance this time. In the table below, we recommend a tentative study plan for the last 30 days to make a balance.

Activity Days
Total number of days for Exam Preparation 30 days
Total number of Chapters/ Topics to Revise 45
Suggested number of Hours to Study Per Day 7 hours
Total number of Topics to be Revised from Physics Per Day 1
Total number of Topics to be Revised from Chemistry Per Day 1
Total number of Topics to be Revised from Biology Per Day 1
Total number of Topics to be Revised Per Day across all Subjects 3
Total number of Topics to be Revised in a Week (all subjects) 3 x 7 = 21
Total number of Topics to be Revised in the First Week (Seven Days) 21
Total number of Topics to be Revised in the Second Week (Seven Days) 21
Remaining Topics 1 day
Total Revision Completes in 15 days
Total number of Days Left 15 days
Practising Mock Tests/ Sample Tests/ Practice Papers 14 days

In general, there has always been something new in the JEE Advanced exam since it was introduced in 2012. And, being one of India’s toughest engineering entrance exams, a candidate has to study the syllabus to a reasonable depth thoroughly. One cannot afford to leave out any section for a good rank. But then always, some chapters or topics can be more important than others for the exam. These may help candidates who are struggling with the vast syllabus.

Physics Chemistry Mathematics
System of Particles and Rotational Motion Structure of Atom Binomial Theorem

JEE Advanced Previous Year Papers

Exam counselling

Getting hands on with the previous year question papers of IIT JEE is another great way of being familiar with the type of questions asked in the paper, difficulty level, marking pattern, etc. By solving old question papers, aspirants can understand where to improve and which areas they are already good at.

The parents need to recognise that not every student is cut out to be a doctor, engineer, or accountant. They should avoid pushing the student blindly on a career route just because it is in trend. Parents may take the help of a career consultant who can assist the students in assessing their strengths and provide career possibilities that are suitable for them.

The JEE Advanced exam is the toughest in India for getting into engineering. It is designed for the most prestigious engineering positions. Students are enthralled by it and act irrationally. It puts them under mental and physical strain as they handle and manage their studies for both school and the many competitive exams. It is difficult to cope with the pressure and stress.

Along with the students, some parents become anxious and stress the students as their own expectations of their children rise. This puts the pupil under additional mental strain. That is something that the parents should never do.

JEE Advanced Sample Paper

Exam talks

Candidates should also refer to the IIT JEE sample papers to understand the exact replica of JEE Advanced. This will give them an idea of what exactly the final question paper looks like. Aspirants can also check out the sample papers for JEE Advanced exam published by some other private institutes, such as FIITJEE, Aakash Institute, Allen, Resonance, and others.
