Exam Brief

The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is a prominent scholarship exam offered by the National Council of Education Research and Training in two stages across the country (NCERT). State and Union Territory administrations conducted the first stage of NTSE. The conduct of Stage I is overseen by Arunachal Pradesh SCERT (State Council of Educational Research and Training). 

The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is a test that evaluates students knowledge in subjects such as Arithmetic, Science, Social Science, and Mental Talents.

NCERT invites students who complete Stage 1 to compete in Stage 2 at the national level. • The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) 2025 will be held in offline mode, i.e. on paper, for both levels, namely the State level examination (stage-I) and the National level examination (stage-II).

Selection Process

The selection of candidates for the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is given below:

• Eligible candidates should apply to the scholarship examination through the official website: http://apdhte.nic.in/

Stages of Exam

There are two stages of the exam in NTSE

Each stage of the NTSE examination contains two parts of the paper known as paper-1 (MAT) and paper-2 (SAT).

Exam pattern details - Scoring pattern (+/- Marking)

NTSE Stage 1 Arunachal Pradesh exam pattern contains two parts, part 1 is the Mental Ability Test (MAT) and part-2 is the Scholastic Ability Test (SAT). There will be 100 questions each in both MAT and SAT (Science-40, Maths-20, Social science-40). Total questions of the NTSE stage 1 examination will be 200 marks.

• Part 1 – Mental Ability Test (MAT)

• This section will have questions on analytical and logical reasoning.
• This section tests the students on their ability to solve reasoning questions, ability to think, evaluate and visualize.
• The section consists of a total of 100 questions. 
• The main topics from this section consist of series, pattern perception, analogies, coding-decoding, classifications, hidden figures and problem-solving, etc.

• Part 2 – Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)

• This section will have a total of 100 questions, which is further divided into Science (40), Social Science (40) and Mathematics (20).
• The student has to be well versed in the syllabus taught in classes 9 and 10th.
• The time allotted for the SAT section is 120 minutes.
• The level of questions will be equivalent to class 10th or equivalent exam.

Exam Pattern Details – Number of Questions Subject-wise

NTSE Stage 1 examination is of 200 questions and each question carries one mark. There are a total of two papers and each paper has 100 questions. Paper 1 is called the Mathematical ability test (MAT) and paper 2 is called the Scholastic ability test (SAT).

The Exam pattern is the same for both Stage 1 and Stage 2 and there will only be objective type (multiple choice questions) questions in both stages of examination.

NTSE Exam Marking Scheme:

NTSE stage 1 Arunachal Pradesh is conducted by the state-level authorities. The same marking scheme will be followed in all the NTSE stage-1 exams conducted by other states.

Exam pattern details - Total time

Paper 1 (MAT) is conducted at the morning session, whereas paper 2 (SAT) is conducted at the afternoon session. The total duration of the NTSE stage 1 examination is 4 hours or 240 minutes. The NTSE stage 1 examination consists of two papers, such as Paper-1 (MAT) and paper-2 (SAT) and each paper is 120 minutes or 2 hours. Exam Syllabus

Students must note that the NTSE Stage 1 will include the questions from the amended syllabus of their education board. The syllabus of the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) 2025 is broadly based on topics covered in Classes 9th and 10th. There are objective-type questions for both papers i.e. Mental Ability Test and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) on relevant topics.

The MAT paper will be based on questions for verbal and non-verbal abilities such as reasoning and critical thinking. Preparation Tips for MAT (Mental Ability Test) NTSE

The Mental Ability Section of the NTSE paper contains 100 questions, each worth one mark, based on Analytical Reasoning and Logical Reasoning. The paper is 120 minutes long, thus you only have 1.2 minutes to answer each question.

• To avoid blunders, practise tests on two topics per day and revise on weekends.
• To have a better picture of the questions and difficulty level of the paper, practise prior year’s papers.
• Improve your ability to reason logically.
• From time to time, try to solve puzzles and riddles. 

NTSE Preparation Tips: Science

The science component of the NTSE Exam consists of 40 one-point questions. The Science component of the NTSE syllabus includes questions from Science Class 10th and Class 9th courses. NCERT Science Books are used to answer the majority of the questions. The following are some Science preparation tips:

• Pay attention in class because the questions in the paper will only come from the fundamentals.
• After class, go through each topic again.
• Make brief notes on each topic and make a list of essential points discussed in class.
• Every day, review all of the chemical equations and formulae.
• Practice physics numerical problems and biology diagrams.

NTSE Preparation Tips: Mathematics

The Mathematics component of the NTSE paper consists of 20 questions, each of which is worth one mark.

• Try to complete this section in less than 24 minutes, which means you should spend no more than 1.2 minutes on each question. This will give you an extra 4 minutes to double-check your answers.
• To ace the computations, solve as many prior years’ exam papers as you can.
• Make a formula sheet and carry it with you at all times for quick revisions.
• Each and every formula should be memorised. All of the trigonometric formulas should be memorised.

NTSE Preparation Tips: Social Science

• There are 40 questions in this area of the NTSE paper. Candidates will receive one mark for each correct answer, according to the NTSE exam structure.
• Candidates should spend no more than 1 or 2 minutes on each question, for a total of 48 minutes on the section.
• Students are instructed to produce a chart paper log of all history events and stick it on their study table so that they can review it from time to time.

Dos and Donts of Form Filling

On the official websites of NCERT and state education boards, NCERT and State Liaison Officers post NTSE announcements and application forms. NTSEapplication process for all states and UTs is done independently at each NTSE exam centre. The forms are available in both online and offline formats. They must be sent to the relevant State Liaison Officer, along with the signature of the school’s principal.

Students must complete the NTSE registration process before the deadline. The Liaison Officer’s office can also provide them with a copy of their application form. Candidates who pass the Stage I exam will take the NTSE Stage II exam.

Candidates will only be able to obtain their admission card after successfully completing the registration process. Before submitting their NTSE application form, students must complete it entirely and get it signed by their principal. Candidates must meet the minimum qualifying conditions to take the NTSE. How to Fill NTSE Arunachal Pradesh Application Form?

After obtaining the application form from the official website, candidates can fill it out offline. They can also obtain their paperwork at the Liaison Officer’s office.

Documents Required Along With NTSE Stage 1 Examination

Following is the list of documents that candidates must possess at the time of application form filling.

• As of the date of form submission, a colour photograph that is no older than 6 months old is required.
• It’s a dark background.
• There are no goggles; only basic eyeglasses is provided.
• In the images taken for the application, there was no make-up.
• Hair should be tied in a proper manner.
• The photo must be shot while the student is dressed in school uniform.
• Indian citizens are exempt from submitting any documentation with their application.
• Students of Indian ancestry studying in class 10 from outside India must show proof of citizenship in India.

Candidates who have successfully applied will be able to take the NTSE Stage 1 exam. Each applicant will receive an NTSE admit card from their respective states.

Important Points of NTSE Stage 1 Examination:

• States and territories make the NTSE application form available online. It can also be obtained from the state liaison officer.
• The NTSE application is a one-step process. The stage 2 test does not require candidates to apply.
• The NTSE application fee (if applicable in the state) must be deposited with the form.
• The candidate must supply complete and accurate information on the NTSE application form 2025.
• Only uppercase letters should be used to fill in the blanks.
• Make no changes to the form using scribbles or revisions. With legible handwriting, fill in the gaps.
• Candidates should submit their application forms at least 4-5 days prior to the deadline.

Examination Centres:

Candidates must indicate their preferred exam centre on the application form. The candidate will be assigned to the nearest examination centre by the exam authority. On the NTSE admission card, which will be released 15-20 days before the exam, the complete address of the examination venue will be listed.

The NTSE Stage 1 examination will be held in Arunachal Pradesh’s major cities.

Filling NTSE Application Form for Open School Students

• Obtain the NTSE form – Students must obtain the NTSE registration form from the liaison officer or download it from the official website.
• Filling in the details- Follow the directions on the stage 1 NTSE application form. In the NTSE application form, fill in the requested information, such as the student’s name, father’s name, and so on.
• Documents to be attached: Sign the NTSE form and paste a recent image. With the form, attach any relevant papers.
• The application fee must be paid — Pay the required application fee (if the state/UT exam conducting authority specifies it).
• Students must verify that the NTSE application form is filled out accurately before submitting it. Check to see if all of the essential papers have been attached. Then, in offline mode, submit the NTSE form.

Age Criteria

The NTSE exam is open to students in grades 10 and up. Passing the stage 1 exam qualifies students to take the stage 2 exam. It is important to note that Indian students studying abroad can immediately sit the stage 2 exam. Students who intend to take the exam should read the NTSE eligibility requirements attentively.

NTSE Age Limit

NCERT has introduced an age limit for open school students sitting the NTSE stage 1 examination. Students must be under the age of 18 to be eligible for open enrollment (as of July 1, 2020). Both Indian and Indian-origin students studying in foreign countries are subject to this age restriction.

Note that all applicants must be unemployed, whether they are students at an open school or Indians studying abroad.

• In order to take the NTSE exam, candidates must first register with the State/UT test administering body. The only applicants who are qualified to apply are Indians.
• Applicants in class X are also eligible to take the test.
• Candidates for the NTSE exam in class X must have passed the class IX examination of a recognised board. A minimum of 60% on the class IX examination must have been awarded to the candidate.
• Candidates must have earned a degree that the board recognises.
• Students enrolled in Open Distance Learning (ODL) who have completed or are slated to complete the class X examination are eligible to take the NTSE exam.

Minimum Qualifying Marks Required

Before taking the NTSE stage 1 exam, certain states require a certain percentage of students to pass the class 9 test. Before applying for NTSE, check the points below for the minimum qualifying marks required in Class 9.

The NTSE is a scholarship examination for students in the tenth grade. Students must attend schools that are registered with the State Council of Educational Research and Training.
