March 20, 2023The National Talent Search Examination is the most important scholarship exam administered in two stages across the country by the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT). The first stage (Stage-1) of the NTSE will be conducted by state and union territory authorities. Students who clear stage 1 are invited to participate in stage 2 at the national level by the NCERT.
NCERT & state authorities administer the NTSE exam for students of class ten annually . Every year, around 9-10 lakh students apply for this specified exam. The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) assesses students’ knowledge in disciplines like Math, Science, Social Science, and Mental Abilities.

The NTSE examination review committee has made substantial adjustments to the NTSE exam in terms of the number of papers, number of questions, areas to be tested, exam duration of the exams, and negative marking practice.

NTSE Stage 1 examination is of 200 questions and each question carries one mark. There are a total of two papers, and each paper has 100 questions. Paper 1 is called the Mathematical ability test (MAT) and paper 2 is called the Scholastic ability test (SAT).

The total duration of the NTSE stage 1 examination is 4 hours or 240 minutes. The NTSE stage 1 examination consists of two papers, such as Paper-1 (MAT) and paper-2 (SAT), and each paper is 120 minutes or 2 hours.
Students should complete the examination within the given time period. Paper 1 (MAT) is conducted at the morning session, whereas paper 2 (SAT) is conducted at the afternoon session.
Students should know that the NTSE Stage 1 will incorporate questions from the Gujarat education board’s modified syllabus. The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) syllabus is mostly based on topics studied in Grade 9 and 10. There are objective-type questions on important topics for both papers, the Mental Ability Test and the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) contains questions from the Social Sciences, Sciences, and Mathematics. The MAT exam will consist of questions that test verbal and nonverbal abilities like reasoning and critical thinking. Analogy, classification, numerical series, pattern perception, concealed figures, and other topics are also covered. Stages 1 and 2 NTSE question papers are based on the CBSE Class 9th and 10th syllabus.

The Mental Ability section of NTSE paper carries 100 questions based on Analytical Reasoning and Logical Reasoning. In the MAT paper, each question carries one mark. The total duration of the paper is 120 minutes, leaving 1.2 minutes to attempt one question.
The Science section of the NTSE examination consists of 40 questions of 1 mark each. The NTSE syllabus for the Science section consists of questions from the topics of Science Class 10th and Class 9th. The maximum number of questions are based on NCERT Science Books. NTSE paper has a section on Mathematics comprising 20 questions where each question carries 1 mark.

NCERT and State Liaison Officers publish NTSE announcement and application forms on the official websites of NCERT and state education boards. At each NTSE exam centre, the application process is done separately for all states and UTs. Both online and offline versions of the forms are available. They must be submitted to the appropriate State Liaison Officer, along with the school’s principal’s signature.
Before the deadline, students must complete the NTSE registration process. They can also get a copy of their application form from the Liaison Officer’s office. Stage I qualifying candidates will sit for the NTSE Stage II exam.
The candidates will be able to get their admit card only upon successful registration. Students must fill out their NTSE application form completely and get it signed by their principal before submitting it. The following is a list of documents that candidates must have on hand when filling out the application form.
Candidates who have successfully applied will be able to take the NTSE Stage 1 exam. Each applicant will receive an NTSE admit card from their respective state.
Candidates have to fill their exam centre preferences in the application form. The exam authority will allot the nearest examination centre to the candidate. The complete address of the examination venue will be mentioned on the NTSE admit card which will be released 15-20 days before the conduction of the exam.
NCERT will award the NTSE scholarships 2025 on the basis of certain reservation criteria which is provided below. Candidates are required to mention their category and attach a copy of the certificate (in the case of reserved category only) in the NTSE application form. The result and merit lists will also be prepared on the following reservation criteria:

Candidates can download the application form of NTSE 2025 of the given states by clicking on the link beside it after they are released. For the NTSE application form of states not listed below, students are advised to check with their school officials for an offline form.
Students in grades 10 and up are eligible to take the NTSE 2025 exam. Students who pass the stage 1 exam are entitled to take the stage 2 exam. It should be emphasised that Indian students studying abroad can take the stage 2 exam right away. Students who plan to take the exam should carefully review the NTSE 2025 eligibility requirements.
The age limit for open school pupils taking the NTSE stage 1 examination has been set by NCERT. The maximum age of the students must be under 18 to be eligible for open enrollment (as of July 1, 2020). This age restriction applies to both Indian and Indian-origin students studying in other countries.
Note: The applied candidates must not be employed whether they are studying from an open school or of Indian origin studying abroad.

The NTSE selection process follows some rules defined by the Government of India. The candidate must be an Indian national. After passing the NTSE stage 2 examination, the applicants would receive a reservation.

Students can attempt only once. The students studying class 10 are eligible to write the exam.
The NTSE is an exam that awards scholarships to students in the 10th grade. The schools of the applying students must be registered with the State Council of Educational Research and Training. Open school students can also apply for the NTSE exam but they must be below the age of 18 and must be appearing for the first time.
Candidates who complete and submit the NTSE 2025 application form correctly will receive an NTSE admit card for the stage I test from their State/UT liaison officer. Candidates can get their NTSE stage 1 admit card 2025 from the school officials or the state liaison officer either online or offline at least a week before the exam date.

Admit cards for the Stage 1 exam will be released soon. To receive the admit card, students can go to NCERT’s official website or contact Gujarat state’s liaison officer. Only those students who qualify for Stage 2 admit cards will be given them. Students can get their Stage 1 admission cards by following the methods outlined below.
Note: The above-mentioned steps to procure the admit card are only for the states that release the admit card online. For the states that release offline admit cards, the candidates must check the respective regional NTSE websites.

Students must pass the SAT and MAT papers individually in order to pass the exam by clearing the cut-off marks. To clear the cut-offs, aspirants for the next exam must study frequently and practice previous year’s question papers.

The NTSE publishes both the minimum passing and cut-off marks. The minimum passing score is the minimum score that applicants must achieve in order to pass the exam. Unlike cut-off marks, minimum passing marks are constant and do not alter year to year.
cut-off marks, on the other hand, determine whether or not candidates are eligible to advance to the following round. They are affected by a variety of causes and alter year to year. After the results are certified, the NTSE 2025 cut-off list will be released. Between February and May 2025, states and UTs were expected to post the NTSE 2025 Stage 1 results on their respective websites. The new NTS exam dates for 2025 will be released shortly. Many states provide the NTSE Result as a merit list, which includes the names of all candidates who were shortlisted. Others publish all participants’ NTSE scores and a separate merit list. All states and Union Territories also release the NTSE cut-off along with the results. The cut-off is the minimum score a candidate must get to be considered for the stage 2 exam.
