Exam Brief

The National Talent Search Exam (NTSE) was formerly known as the NSTSS (National Science Talent Search Scheme). It is a national-level scholarship examination that identifies and improves students’ skills, logical reasoning, and mental ability.

Every year, the NTSE (National Talent Search Examination) is held for class 10 students in two stages: Stage-I (State-Level) and Stage-II (National-Level). The Stage-I exam is a state-level examination administered by all Indian states and UTs. The National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) administers the Stage-II exam, a national-level exam. Only students who pass the NTSE Stage-I exam will be eligible to take the Stage II exam. If a candidate wishes to be considered for the scholarship, they must pass both exams.  The top 2,000 students will be selected and will receive monthly scholarships.

Exam Summary

The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) assesses students’ knowledge in subjects such as Mathematics, Science, Social Science, and Mental Ability. This program is open to all students in class X who received 60% or higher in class IX at any recognised school. Students pursuing admission in the Science and Social Science streams are eligible for scholarships up to the Doctorate level.

In contrast, students pursuing professional courses are eligible for scholarships up to the postgraduate level. Rajasthan NTSE 2021 Stage-I has been postponed due to administrative reasons. Previously, this exam was scheduled for January 16, 2022. The new Rajasthan NTSE 2021 exam date will be announced later. The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education administers the first level of the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) for students in class X. NCERT, on the other hand, will hold the NTSE Stage-II examination on June 12, 2022.

The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) 2022 will be held in the offline mode, i.e. on paper, for both levels, namely the State level examination (stage-I) and the National level examination (stage-II). The NTSE Stage-I exam 2022 was initially scheduled for January 16, 2022, but it was rescheduled for administrative reasons. The NCERT scholarship exam consists of two papers: Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).

Both the MAT and SAT papers for the NTSE 2022 are given on the same day, but in two different shifts: 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for MAT and 01:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. for SAT. Only designated exam centres will be used to administer the exams. Candidates must show up for the exam with a valid admit card issued by the exam conducting authority.

Selection Process

The NTSE 2021-22 exam is divided into two parts.

• Stage-I is carried out at the state/UT level by the relevant state/UT authorities
• Stage-II by the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT). 
  • The question paper is divided into two parts: MAT and SAT.

According to the NTSE exam pattern 2021-22, the stage-I examination can be taken in either Hindi or English. Every correct answer is worth one mark. There is no negative marking for incorrect or unattempted ones.

• Only candidates who pass both papers independently will be considered for merit. The awardees will be chosen based on their MAT and SAT scores combined.

Stages of Exam

The NTSE is divided into two stages:

• Stage I
• Stage II

As the exam is offered in Hindi and English, students are given the option of choosing their language.

Part 1- Mental Ability Test (MAT)

• The MAT consists of questions that require analytical and logical reasoning.
• The Mental Ability Test assesses the candidate’s reasoning, thinking ability, evaluation ability, discrimination ability, and visualisation.

Part 2- Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)

• The SAT section includes 100 questions from Science (40), Social Science (40), and Mathematics (20).
• The section assesses the candidate’s reading comprehension, interpretation, evaluation, and general knowledge of the subjects.
• Test duration for SAT: 120 minutes
• The level of questions will be similar to a class ten or equivalent exam.

Exam pattern details - Scoring pattern (+/- Marking)

NCERT uses a specific marking scheme to shortlist the eligible candidates.

• One mark is added to the total score for each correct answer.
• There will be no negative marking if you choose the incorrect answer.
• There will be no deduction of marks for unattempted questions.

To get good grades in the NTSE examination, students must mark as many correct answers as possible. Only those who meet the minimum cut-off marks will be eligible for the scholarship.

Note that only students who pass both papers separately will be considered for merit. The awardees will be chosen based on the total number of marks scored in the MAT and SAT sections.

Exam Syllabus

Preparation Tips

1. A strenuous study should be avoided.
   Last-minute NTSE preparation should include intensive revision of NCERT books. Students should not fall behind when it comes to learning new things or things that aren’t as important. They should concentrate on revising their brief notes.
2. Stay calm and relaxed.
   Students should take adequate rest or breaks between their long NTSE Stage 1 and Stage 2 study hours. This could include taking a power nap or doing something else that relaxes them. It is recommended that you sleep for at least 7-8 hours per day to retain your learned concepts.
3. Maintain a healthy and balanced diet.
   During the NTSE exam preparation period, students should avoid consuming junk food. Students must include healthy and easily digestible foods in the diet.
4. Exquisite planning is required.
   Before beginning anything, planning is required. It also applies to NTSE. A student must create a timetable to revise the entire syllabus in the number of days available. Planning should be done to complete the revision before the NTSE exam.
5. Identity through self-analysis.
   Students should attempt mock tests during the NTSE exam preparation. The importance of analysing performance after each NTSE exam mock test cannot be overstated. This will allow a student to identify the errors made and the reasons. They will also become aware of the not attempted questions and the reason. Students must work on all of the identified causes to eliminate the shortcoming in the next mock test and see any improvement.

Before beginning NTSE Stage-I preparation, students must thoroughly understand the exam pattern as explained by the conducting body. Following that, they should sit down and create a systematic plan for exam preparation. Here are some useful NTSE exam-taking strategies:

1. Comprehend the syllabus: Knowledge of the NTSE syllabus and exam pattern is beneficial at every stage, from developing an effective study plan to developing strategies to perform well in the examination hall. Before making your schedule, you should review the exam syllabus.
2. Syllabus for the NTSE 2020: The NTSE 2020 syllabus will be based on the NCERT 10th curriculum. Students can cover the majority of the syllabus by reading the NCERT books. They can use online learning resources such as live online classes and recorded video lectures for topics they find difficult to understand.
   NTSE question papers cover topics from Mathematics, Science, Social Science, English, General Knowledge, and Mental Ability.
3. Examine the NTSE 2020 Exam Pattern: The NTSE is a state-level exam with two sections:
   1. Mental Ability Test (MAT)
   2. Scholastic Ability Test (SAT)
   The paper that was administered offline consisted of an objective type multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Each correct answer carries one mark. Students from the general category must score 40% of the total marks to pass the exam, while students from the reserved categories must receive only 32% of the total marks.
4. Recognise your strengths and weaknesses: Knowing your strengths and weaknesses allows you to concentrate on the things that matter. If you are aware of your flaws, you can seek solutions. 6. Take practice tests: Taking as many as mock tests, practise tests, and previous year papers as possible is one of the best ways to check your progress and your level in comparison to other students. It will also assist you in analysing your performance and looking for ways to improve to achieve a high score on the final exam.
7. Regularly revise: The key to success is revision. You should revise your syllabus regularly and solve sample papers to determine how much you know.
8. Get answers to your questions: Entering the exam room with doubts in your mind will only harm your performance. So, whether you are taking NTSE coaching or not, make sure you clear any doubts. If you have chosen self-study, you can ask questions by downloading a mobile app. 
9. Work on previous year’s papers: This will assist you in comprehending the exam pattern and the types of questions asked. Based on this, you can devise techniques and strategies to attempt as many questions as possible in the time allotted to complete the test.
10. Look after your health: Having less time for NTSE 2022 preparation does not imply that you will neglect your health. Even if you have to study for a few extra hours, you must eat healthy foods and get enough sleep. What you eat and how much sleep you get directly impact how well you perform on the final exam. As a result, when preparing for the NTSE, pay equal attention to your health.

Detailed Study plan

The NTSE exam detailed study plan is given below:

1. In MAT, make sure you cover “All types of questions” in non-verbal and verbal. Purchase a standard book (preferably a comprehensive one) and stick to it. Please do not nudge between books. Students should focus on relatively simple topics to complete the MAT syllabus. Water and mirror images, Venn diagrams, and syllogisms are all simple topics. Students can then answer questions based on blood relations, direction tests, and ranking tests. Following that, questions can be attempted based on number series, an analogy based on numbers, and classification. Students should practise completing the MAT paper twice. This will assist them in developing an understanding of the questions and the level of difficulty of the paper.
   Students must use NCERT books to study.
2. Take care of the tricky parts. There were a few questions from a relatively unknown topic called “Sequential Output Tracing” at the time. As a result, knowing all of the different types of questions asked in the exam is beneficial.
3. Begin with simple math books such as RD Sharma/RS Aggarwal. Completely master them. The majority of states take stage-I questions directly from these books.
4. Cover topics that are not part of the CBSE curriculum but are part of the state curriculum. 
5. Science necessitates a high level of interest on the reader’s part for the concepts to be properly assimilated. Solve previous year’s question papers and master your state syllabus to get a sense of the level of the questions.
6. Read up on some of the important chapters, such as light/motion in physics, basic chemistry (stoichiometry, acids, bases, salts, and so on), and life processes in biology.
7. The best strategy for Social would be to cover as many topics as possible because questions from this section are not twisted at all. Revise the “MOST IMPORTANT TOPICS,” from which most of the questions were drawn the previous year.
8. Make legible notes that can be used for effective last-minute revision.

Student Counselling

Candidates of Indian nationality studying in class 10 in India or abroad are eligible to take the NTSE. They will receive a scholarship to further their education in India at the secondary, undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels.

There are a total of 1000 scholarships available through this program. The amount of scholarship money given to students varies depending on their class. Students in classes 11 and 12 are eligible for a monthly scholarship of INR 1,250. For UG/PG studies, a scholarship of INR 2,000 per month is available. The amount of the scholarship for PhD studies is determined by UGC guidelines. In 2019, the total number of scholarships awarded increased to 2,000. Dos

NTSE Application Form 2022- Important Information

• States/UTs will make the NTSE 2022 application form available in an online format. It is also available with the state liaison officer.
• The application for NTSE 2022 is a one-step process. Candidates are not required to apply for the stage-II exam.
• Along with the form, the NTSE 2022 application fee must be deposited.

After downloading the application form from the official website, candidates can fill it out offline. They can also obtain their application forms from the Liaison officer’s office.

Candidates can also submit an application form by visiting the Liaison officer’s office. Instructions for Photographs

The following is a list of instructions for photographs that candidates must have on hand when filling out the application form.

• A colour photograph no more than six months old from the date of form submission.
