Q.1: If X=a,b,c,d and Y=f,b,d,g, find X∩Y.
Solution: X=a,b,c,d and Y=f,b,d,g

The intersection of sets A and B is the set of all elements which are common to both A and B. The
symbol ‘∩’ is used to represent intersection.
A∩B=x:x∈A and x∈B Given Sets, X=a,b,c,d and Y=f,b,d,g ∴X∩Y=a,b,c,d∩f,b,d,g ⇒X∩Y=b,d.

Q.2: If R is the set of real numbers and Q is the set of rational numbers, then what is R-Q?
Solution: Given sets,
R: set of real numbers
Q: set of rational numbers
The combination of rational numbers and irrational numbers are Real numbers.
The difference of the sets A and B in this order is the set of elements which belong to A but not to B.
i.e. A-B=The elements present in only A which are not in B
R-Q=The set of elements in only R not in Q
∴R-Q: set of irrational numbers
Q.3: {2, 3, 4, 5} and {3, 6, 7, 9, 10} are not disjoint sets.
True
Solution: As 3∈{2, 3, 4, 5}, 3∈{3, 6, 7, 9, 10}
⇒{2, 3, 4, 5}∩{3, 6, 7, 9, 10}={3}
If two sets have no common elements, they are said to be disjoint sets.
So, these sets are not disjoint sets.
Therefore, the given statement is true.
