Ascending order: The arrangement obtained by writing the given numbers in ascending order is called ascending order. For e.g: 847, 9754, 8320, 571
Writing these numbers in ascending order gives the following configuration: 571, 847, 8320, 9754
Descending order: The arrangement obtained by writing the given numbers in descending order is called descending order. For e.g: 1971, 45321, 88715, 92547
Writing these numbers in descending order gives the following configuration: 92547, 88715, 45321, 1971
How do you compare numbers?
Comparing numbers, which number is greater or which is smaller, can be determined by different types of estimation:
(i) If the numbers are of one or two digits, then you can see which number is greater and lesser.
(ii) If the numbers have more digits then a comparison can be done on the basis of the number of digits.
(iii) If the numbers have the same number of digits, then first compare the digits from the left side, the number whose value of the first left digit is greater, that number will be the largest.
Example: (i) 92, 392, 4456, 89742
Among all the above numbers, 89742 has the highest number of digits, so this number is the largest.
(ii) 1920, 1901, 9201, 9021
All the above numbers have the same number of digits and on comparing the digits from the left side, the first left digit in 9201, 9021 is also the same, so find the value of the second digit from the left side so that 9201 is the largest number.
Formation of numbers: Different numbers can be formed from the given numbers on the basis of their arrangement. Suppose we have four digits 5, 8, 3, and 1. Now, how many numbers can be formed from these without repetition? For e.g:
5831, 8531, 3158, 3851, 8351 ….. etc.
Thus a total of 24 numbers can be obtained
