Q: If the height of the cylinder whose volume is 1.54 m3 and diameter of the base is 140 cm is k m, find k.
Solution: Given that the diameter of the base =140 cm
The volume of the cylinder =1.54 m3
Also, radius (r) of the base.=1402 cm=70 cm
=70100 m=0.7 m We know, the volume of the cylinder =πr2h where r,h are the radius and the height of the cylinder respectively.
Now, according to the question.
1.54 m3=227×0.7 m×0.7 m×h⇒1.54×722×0.7×0.7=h⇒h=1 ⇒h=1 m
Hence, the height of the cylinder =1 m
Q: If each edge of a cube is doubled. How many times will its surface area increase?
4
Solution: Let initially the edge of the cube be L.
We know a cube has 6 edges.
The total surface area of a cube =6×L2.
If each edge of the cube is doubled, then it becomes 2L. So, the new edge of the cube is 2L.
Therefore, the new surface area =62L2=6×4L2=24L2. Now, 24L2 can be written as 4×6L2 that is 4×previous
surface area. Therefore, new surface area=4×previous surface area. So, the surface area will be increased by 4
times.
