NCERT Solutions Class 10 Maths Chapter 13 Ex 13.4: Points to Remember

NCERT Class 10 Maths Chapter 13 Exercise 13.4 has five questions on the topic “Frustum of a Cone”. In this exercise, students learn to calculate the surface area and volume of the frustum of the cone.

Suppose there is a right circular cone. If we cut a portion with a plane parallel to its base and remove the smaller cone, then the leftover part of the right circular cone is called a frustum of the cone. ‘Frustum’ is a Latin word which means ‘piece cut off’.

Let ‘h’ be the height, ‘l’ be the slant height, and ‘r1‘ and ‘r2‘ (r1 > r2) be the radius of the ends of the frustum of the cone. Thus, the formula of the volume, the curved surface area, and the total surface area of the frustum of the cone are as follows:

  • Volume of the frustum of the cone = 1/3πh(r12 + r22 + r1r2)
  • Curved surface area of the frustum of the cone = π( r1 + r2)l
  • Total surface area of the frustum of the cone = π( r1 + r2)l + πr12 + πr22
