B.Sc Nursing Admissions Through NEET

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare replaced the 73 year old Indian Nursing Council Act of 1947 with the National Nursing and Midwifery Commission Bill 2020. There are numerous entrance exams conducted in India for admission to UG and PG nursing courses by various state governments and medical institutions.

  • To avoid various entrance exams, the authorities conduct a common entrance test for integrating the entire system. For this reason the NEET was introduced for various medical courses. 
  • This newly formed commission controls the UG and PG courses separately and also decides upon the prices for the courses.
  • A national register is maintained to keep a track of all practicing and qualified nurses.
  • Also, mandatorily every nurse and midwife must register with the state boards.

What is NEET ?

National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate (NEET UG) is an All-India examination held for admission to undergraduate medical courses. NEET is conducted by the National Testing Agency for  admission into MBBS, BDS and AYUSH courses.

NEET: Eligibility Criteria

The Indian Nursing Council (INC) prescribes the NEET UG eligibility criteria for B.Sc Nursing. The NTA does not formulate B.Sc Nursing eligibility criteria for NEET.

All NEET aspirants must fulfil the following eligibility criteria:

  • Candidates must have passed class 12 with specialisation in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
  • Candidates from the general category must have passed the qualifying examination with minimum 45% marks, while for SC/ST/OBC  candidates the minimum marks is 40%.
  • Candidates can apply for the NEET exam more than once as the attempt limit has been removed. They can attempt until the upper age limit of 25 years.
  • At the time of applying, candidates must be at least 17 years of age.

NEET B.Sc Nursing Admissions: Application Form

All candidates must register for B.Sc nursing admission through NEET on or before the last registration date through the below-mentioned steps.

  • Registration: Candidates have to register at neet.nta.nic.in. After login, candidates have to fill in personal, identification, and communication details on the registration page.
  • Filing Application Forms: After completion of registration, candidates have to fill the NTA NEET BSc nursing application form. Candidates must fill in information such as caste, category, nationality, state code, choice of exam cities, choice of language for question paper, academic qualifications, and details of the parents.
  • Uploading Images: Aspirants must upload the documents within the specified NTA format. To avoid rejection of the NEET-UG application form, the images should be provided as per the specifications determined by the authority.
  • Application Fee: Candidates must pay the NEET B.Sc nursing application form fee via online mode using debit card/ credit card/ net banking/ UPI or service provider. A confirmation page will be generated after successful payment.
  • Print Application Form: After the payment of the application fee, candidates should get a  print out of the submitted NEET UG application form.

Other central and state governments can also use results of UG NEET in accordance with their corresponding eligibility criteria / other norms / applicable regulations/guidelines/ rules, as determined by NTA. The results may also be used for B.Sc. (Nursing) courses as per their eligibility criteria / other standards / guidelines and regulations”.

The decision to grant B.Sc nursing admission based on the NEET scores came after  the recommendation of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

NEET Exam Pattern

Aspirants applying to B.Sc. nursing courses through NEET scores should be familiar with the NEET exam pattern. There will be a total of 200 questions but candidates need to answer only 180 questions.

The questions in the NEET exam are divided into – Section A and Section B. Please note that Section A contains 35 questions, which is mandatory while Section B contains 15 questions, and candidates can answer only 10 questions.
