The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare replaced the 73 year old Indian Nursing Council Act of 1947 with the National Nursing and Midwifery Commission Bill 2020. There are numerous entrance exams conducted in India for admission to UG and PG nursing courses by various state governments and medical institutions.
National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate (NEET UG) is an All-India examination held for admission to undergraduate medical courses. NEET is conducted by the National Testing Agency for admission into MBBS, BDS and AYUSH courses.
The Indian Nursing Council (INC) prescribes the NEET UG eligibility criteria for B.Sc Nursing. The NTA does not formulate B.Sc Nursing eligibility criteria for NEET.

Other central and state governments can also use results of UG NEET in accordance with their corresponding eligibility criteria / other norms / applicable regulations/guidelines/ rules, as determined by NTA. The results may also be used for B.Sc. (Nursing) courses as per their eligibility criteria / other standards / guidelines and regulations”.
The decision to grant B.Sc nursing admission based on the NEET scores came after the recommendation of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
Aspirants applying to B.Sc. nursing courses through NEET scores should be familiar with the NEET exam pattern. There will be a total of 200 questions but candidates need to answer only 180 questions.
The questions in the NEET exam are divided into – Section A and Section B. Please note that Section A contains 35 questions, which is mandatory while Section B contains 15 questions, and candidates can answer only 10 questions.
