NEET 2024 Exam Day Guidelines: The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is India’s only medical entrance exam, organised by NTA every year. Lakhs of aspirants sit for this exam with the hope of making it to MBBS, BDS and AYUSH courses in top government and private medical colleges of India.
Aspirants preparing for this exam have to keep in mind certain rules and regulations. These rules are pertaining to the dress code, debarred items and candidate behavior in the exam hall. The candidates who fail to follow these guidelines on the exam day may not be allowed to sit for the examination.
This article will give you an overview of the examination and the exam day guidelines that the candidate must follow before and during the NEET 2024 examination.
NEET Exam Day Guidelines: Rules and Regulations
The candidates must carefully go through the rules and regulations before appearing for the NEET 2024 Exam. We have listed them here-
- The NEET 2024 admit card is an essential document to be carried to the exam centre.
- No candidate is allowed to enter the examination hall without an admit card.
- The candidate needs to reach the examination centre an hour before the reporting time.
- Carrying the Admit Card and Photograph to the examination hall is mandatory.
- The candidate has to check the test booklet thoroughly. Check and confirm the number of pages as mentioned on the cover page.
- The candidate must sign and give the finger impressions on the attendance sheet.
- The candidate has to ensure that they sign twice on the attendance sheet.
- Match the code of the booklet with the solution sheet before beginning the examination.
- The candidates will do the rough work only in the test booklet.
- Keep your Admit card safe until the NEET MBBS Admission 2024 process is complete.
- Also, the candidates can carry the following items inside the NEET exam hall:-
- Mask on the face
- Gloves on hand
- Personal transparent
- Water bottle
- Small hand sanitiser bottle (50 ml)
- Original copy of NEET Admit Card
- Identification Proof
(Candidates cannot carry their own pens)
NEET Exam Day Guidelines 2024: General Instructions
The NTA has laid down the following instructions for the NEET Examination 2024:
- You will HAVE to follow the instructions given by the invigilator.
- Candidates HAVE to follow the instructions mentioned on the Admit Card, failing which the officials can withdraw their candidature.
- Candidates are going to be responsible for the answer sheet.
- Manipulation of the documents like Admit Card is strictly prohibited and is against the NEET 2024 Rules and Laws.
- Manipulation of the photograph is strictly prohibited.
- Candidates need to provide correct information and details about themselves.
- The candidates are responsible for not hampering the smooth and fair conduct of the examination because it can lead to debarment.
- Some debarred items are not allowed inside the examination hall.
The list of the debarred items is as follows –
- Electronic Devices like Calculator, Watch, Electronic Pen, Scanner, Smart Watch, Cameras, Pen Drivers etc.
- Any textual material (printed or written), bits of paper, writing pad, log table etc.
- Any communication device like Mobile Phone, Earphones, Microphones, Bluetooth Devices, Pager, Health Bands etc.
- Eatables: Any edible item, packed or opened, water bottles, drinks etc.
- Stationery Material: Pen, Scale, Eraser, Geometry/Pencil Box, plastic pouches etc.
- Ornaments like Rings, bracelets, Earrings, Nose-pin, Chains, Necklaces, Pendants, Brooches & Badges
NEET Exam Day Guidelines 2024: NTA NEET 2024 Dress Code
NEET aspirants must adhere to the guidelines concerning the dress code laid down by NTA. This dress code is strictly applicable to all candidates. It is mandatory to follow the dress code. Follow these rules to avoid confusion and hassle on the test day.
- Following the Covid-19 safety protocol, the candidates must wear masks and gloves.
- Candidates wearing a customary dress will need to report to the centre 2 hours before the commencement of the exam.
Note: Please fill the customary dress declaration (including objects of faith that are customary or religious obligations) in the application form to be given an exception.
According to the High Court of Delhi, Sikh candidates can carry kara, kirpan or kanga with them. According to the NTA, Muslim females can wear Hijab or Burkha. While filling out the application form for NEET, these candidates will have to mention that they will be in a customary dress. On the day of the exam, they will be required to report at least an hour before the commencement of the exam.
Dress Code rules for Male Candidates:
- Male candidates should wear half-sleeved shirts or t-shirts. Full sleeved shirts or t-shirts are not allowed.
- Trousers or simple pants are preferred.
- Kurta Pajamas are not allowed.
- Candidates should wear light clothes. Clothes with large buttons, embroidery, pockets, zips and bold prints will not be allowed.
- Shoes with thick soles are not allowed inside the examination hall. Candidates should wear open sandals or chappals with a thin sole.

- Female candidates should also wear light clothes. Clothes with elaborate borders, large buttons, flowers, brooches, embroidery, pockets, zips and bold prints will not be allowed.
- No full-sleeved clothes are allowed. Female candidates can wear half-sleeved clothes.
- Leggings, palazzos and bottoms with large pockets are not allowed.
- Refrain from wearing anything that can be detected by metal detectors, such as earrings, nose rings, rings, pendants, necklaces, bracelets, and anklets.
- Avoid high heels and thick-soled shoes. Sandals, slippers and low heels are allowed.

NEET 2024 Exam Day Guidelines: Exam Instructions
- The Examination Hall will be opened 2 hours before the commencement of the test. Therefore, the candidates should reach the exam centre at least 1 hour before the exam begins.
- The officials will check the admit card at the gate.
- Moreover, the invigilator can check the candidate’s Admit Card at any time during the examination.
- The officials will provide a blue/black ballpoint pen to the candidates to answer the exam centre.
- The candidate must submit their answer booklet to the assigned person before leaving the examination hall.
- The candidate must follow the instructions announced by the invigilator in strict compliance.
- As per NTA, candidates who have Diabetes will get special care.
- No arrangement for keeping clothes, wallets, mobile phones, etc., will be made at the NEET exam centres. Candidates must not bring these valuables and debarred items along with them.
- In case of any ambiguity in understanding the question in any regional language, the English translation of the questions and responses will be final.
- The NEET 2024 exam is a pen paper-based test; the candidates are advised not to tear any pages from the answer booklet, as they will be held responsible for any loss.
- Rough work in the OMR Sheet is not allowed. Candidates are only supposed to work on the rough sheet provided to them.
