In symmetry, half of the image will be equal to the other half of the image. Symmetry Definition: In Mathematics, figures with evenly balanced propositions are known as Symmetry. And Mathematics says that symmetry s are always a mirror image.
Symmetry Example: Look at the image given below. When you are asked to cut the butterfly into 2 equal parts, you will have to draw the imaginary line in between the butterfly and cut them into two equal parts. The butterfly carved out in the below image is an example of symmetry.
An imaginary line that is used to divide an object or image into two or more equal halves is known as the line of symmetry. The object or image can be divided either horizontally, vertically, or even diagonally. There are many types of Line Symmetry and they are:
An image or an object which has been divided with the help of only 1 line is known as 1 line symmetry. In the below image you can see that, Alphabet “O” and India Gate have been divided into 2 equal halves with the help of 1 line symmetry.
A object or an image which has been divided in to equal halves with the help of two lines is known as 2 lines symmetry. As discussed we can divide an image into equal halves either horizontally, vertically or diagonally. In the below image, you can the alphabet letter “H” & “X” have been divided with the help of 2 lines equally and they are symmetrical to each other.
An object or an image which has been divided into 3 equal halves with the help of 3 lines are known as 3 Lines Symmetry. In the below image, The triangle has been divided into 3 halves with the help of 3 lines and they are identical to each other.
Look at the square given below, the following square has been divided with the help of 4 symmetrical lines and all the sides are equal to each other. This is known as 4 lines of symmetry.
When an object or image is divivde into infinite number of equal parts, then it is known as infinite lines of symmetry. Look at the image given below, the circle has infinite number of symmetrical lines and the opposite sides are equal.

Rotational Symmetry is other wise called radial symmetry. When an object is rotated in a particular direction, but the existed shape is identical to the present shape is known as Rotational Symmetry. The example of the Rotational Symmetry are given below:
When an object is moved from one place is to another place, the same orientation will be seen in front and backward motion. When the same orientation is found in front and backward motion when translated then it is known as Translation symmetry. The example of Translation Symmetry is given below:
When an object is divided into two equal halves, the one half of the image will be equal to other half. The Butterfly symmetry example provided on this page is example of the reflexive symmetry.
The combination of translation an reflexive symmetry is known as Glide symmetry. Generally, a glide symmetry reflection is commutative. Glide reflection will not be alter even though if we change the combinations order.
