There are two papers in the Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET): Paper 1 and Paper 2. If candidates wish to teach Classes 1–5, they must appear for Paper 1. However, the candidates who plan to teach Classes 6-8, must clear the Paper 2 exam. In terms of the number of subjects and the total number of questions, the exam pattern differs for both papers.

UPTET exam for Paper 1 comprises 5 sections. The table provides the subjects covered under UPTET Paper 1 along with the number of questions in each section and marking scheme.

UPTET Paper 2 is for the selection of teachers in the Upper Primary Level (Class 6 to 8). It consists of four sections which are tabulated below along with the number of questions and maximum marks for each section:

Candidates have four options for each question in the UPTET exam. Candidates must choose one accurate answer from the four alternatives provided. For each accurate answer, one mark is awarded. The exam does not have any negative marking.
