Avasthi zips around town on her Harley these days, but she hasn’t forgotten the pain of missing out on an IIT seat by a few marks. That experience runs deep in the vision of Indiavidual Learning and its flagship online brand Embibe, which has 150,000 users comprising students prepping for admission into engineering and medical courses. Embibe helps these students devise a proper strategy to crack some of India’s notoriously tough entrance exams. In its first year after starting up in November 2012, Avasthi realised that data was key to helping students maximise their potential. “There’s a lot of user-behaviour data to be captured,” says Avasthi. “[Using that data,] we have brought anything between 20% and 50% improvement in outcomes.”
