A short notification regarding UGC NET Session 1 for the June cycle is expected to be released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on April 6, 2024, on its official website. The University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) is a national-level exam that determines candidates’ eligibility for only Assistant Professor or both Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor posts in Indian universities and colleges.

Salary Structure

UGC NET Salary structure is divided into two parts.

• UGC NET JRF Salary or Scholarship
• UGC NET Lecturer or Assistant Professor Salary

The actual salary for UGC NET qualified candidates depends upon whether they are going for a Private institute or Government institute.

• For Private Institutes: the salary range varies from 35,000–60,000 per month based on the experience backed by the Doctoral Degree.
• For Government Institutes: if you have cleared the UGC NET exam and even if you do not have your Doctoral Degree, the Salary starts for an Assistant Professor at 70,000 per month. The pay band is between 70,000–1,20,000.

UGC NET JRF Salary Structure | JRF Salary After Clearing NET Exam

The amount, duration, and other associated details for the NET Exam JRF Scholarship can be seen below. Fellowship tenure is initially for three years. If the research work done by any applicant is judged satisfactory by the concerned department of the University/College, the length can be extended for another three years.

• NET JRF Scholarship Amount: INR 31,000 (for the first two years) and INR 35,000 (for the next two years) (for remaining tenure).
• Humanities and Social Sciences contingency – INR 10,000/- per annum for the first two years and INR 20,500/- per annum for the subsequent three.

The UGC NET eligibility criteria for JRF and Assistant Professorship are different. It is mandatory for candidates to have a Master’s degree in the relevant subject from a recognized university. The maximum age for JRF has been increased from 30 years to 31 years. 

Age Criteria

• Candidates in the general category for JRF must be under 31 years old.
• The age restriction for reserved category candidates will be lowered by five years. Candidates having research experience will be eligible for a relaxation, which will be limited to the time spent on research in a relevant or related field during their post-graduate degree.
• There will also be a 5-year relaxation for female candidates.
• Candidates holding a Master of Laws (LLM) may be eligible for a three-year relaxation.
• Candidates who have served in the armed forces are eligible for a 5-year period of relaxation.
• There will be no upper age limit for candidates applying for UGC NET Assistant Professor.

Education Qualification

• Candidates must possess a master’s degree or have passed an equivalent test administered by a recognised university. Students in their final year of post-graduation can also apply.
• To apply for UGC NET, general/unreserved applicants must have a minimum of 55% in their Master’s degree.
• To take this test, SC, ST, OBC, NCL, and PwD candidates must have a master’s degree or an equivalent degree with a minimum of 50% marks.
• Candidates who are studying a Master’s degree or similar programme, or who have taken their qualifying Master’s degree (final year) exam and have yet to receive their results, or who have had their qualifying examinations postponed, are eligible to take this test. In such instances, candidates will be admitted provisionally and only after passing their master’s degree with a grade point average of 55 percent in the General category and 50 percent in the SC, ST, OBC, and PwD categories.
• Candidates with a PhD degree who completed their post-graduate studies by September 19, 1991, are eligible to take the exam. Additionally, these applicants are eligible for a 5% reduction in their overall score.
• Candidates in the transgender category are subject to the same relaxation requirements as candidates in the SC/ ST/ PwD categories.
• It is recommended that candidates only appear in the topic of their postgraduate degree.

Number of Attempts

Candidates can apply for the UGC NET exam until they meet the age and educational requirements set by the board. There is no limit to the number of times you can take the UGC NET exam.

How To Fill UGC NET Application Form 2024?

Candidates are recommended to fill out the UGC NET Online application form in the following order:

Stage I: Registration Process for UGC NET

• Visit the official website of UGC, i.e. ugcnet.nta.nic.in.
• Scroll down to “Application Form UGC NET December or June cycle” on the homepage.
• A new window will appear. Now, on the left side, click the “New Registration” button.
• A page with instructions will appear. After reading it, click the ‘checkbox’ at the bottom of the page. Then, on the “Click here To Proceed” icon, click.
• The registration form will appear on the screen. Enter your personal information, such as candidate names, mothers’ and fathers’ names, dates of birth, and so on. Enter your contact information, such as your address, phone number, and email address.
• After you’ve filled out all of the essential information, enter your Security PIN and click “Submit.”

Stage II: Complete the Online UGC NET Application Form

• You must connect to your account using the login credentials – Application Number and Password – once you have registered with NTA.
• Fill in the following information:
• Candidate’s name, father’s name, mother’s name, date of birth, mobile number, and other personal information.
• Address, Locality, City, District, State, PIN Code, Permanent Address, and other communication details of the candidate.
• Educational information, such as the names of the schools and colleges attended, the name of the course, the name of the college, the year of graduation, and so on.
• Candidates must also select their preferred exam centre, PG level subject, NET subjects, and PG Graduation course.

Stage III: Upload Photograph and Signature

• The image must be scanned in jpg/jpeg format.
• The photograph must be taken on or after October 1, 2020, and should clearly show the candidate’s name as well as the date of the photograph. Goggles or caps should not be worn in photographs. Spectacles of any kind are permitted.
• Photos taken using a computer or a Polaroid camera are not accepted.
• The application will be denied if it does not include a photograph.
• The scanned passport image must be between 10 and 200kb in size and 3.5 cm X 4.5 cm in dimension.
• The signature scanned image should be between 4kb and 30kb in size, with a dimension of 3.5cm X 1.5cm.
• Candidates must preview their uploaded photographs after uploading the document.

Stage IV: Payment of Fee and Status Receipt of Application Form Fee

• After uploading your photographs, you’ll need to pay the UGC NET application charge.
• Candidates must pay their fees only through the Internet.
• Choose one of the available online payment ways and pay the charge by filling out all of the relevant information.
• Take a printout of the application form after making a successful fee payment for future reference.
• The confirmation page for the UGC NET December-June cycle will confirm fee payment and receipt of online transactions.
• Candidates who do not pay their fees by the deadline will not be considered for the exam.
• Candidates should contact NTA with proof of fee payment if there is a discrepancy or error on the fee receipt. A photocopy of the transaction slip from a debit/credit card, net banking, or Paytm transaction will be accepted as proof.

NTA UGC NET Merit List and Normalization Procedure

NTA will develop a merit list to shortlist the eligible candidates based on the UGC National Eligibility Test result and cutoff.
