Seed germination is a process in which seed embryo gets activated to grow in seedlings through the use of reserve food. For this suitable conditions are required. Certain favourable conditions like water, oxygen and a suitable temperature are required for it. Seed absorbs water through the micropyle. Water is necessary for the acceleration of metabolic activities in the seed. Seed swell up due to imbibition of water and seed coat get rupture. Water helps in the hydrolysis of stored food and translocation of it to the embryo.
