The transfer of pollen grains from the anther of the flower of one plant to the stigma of another plant of the same species is called cross-pollination. Many adaptations are there in plants that favour cross-pollination. The adaptations appear in the cross pollinated plants are unisexuality, dichogamy, herkogamy, heterostyly, pollen prepotency, self sterility.

Dicliny or unisexuality: It is the production of unisexual flowers, i.e., the flower contains only one reproductive structure, either male or female. In the dioecious plants, that bear male and female flowers in different plants, prevent self-pollination.

Dichogamy: The condition at which stamens and carpels of a bisexual flower matures at different times is called dichogamy.

Herkogamy: It is an adaptation in dimorphic flower in which anther and stigma are placed at different position

Self-incompatibility: It is a genetic mechanism, in which the pollen grains of a flower does not germinate on the stigma of the same flower or different flowers of the same plant.
