Paedogenesis is the method of reproduction by sexually mature larvae, usually without fertilization. The young may be eggs, such as are produced by Miastor, a genus of gall midge flies, or other larval forms, as in the case of some flukes. It is an example of parthenogenesis.

There are different kinds of syngamy that are prevalent among the living organism. They are autogamy, exogamy, hologamy, paedogamy, merogamy, isogamy, anisogamy and conjugation. The fusion of morphological and physiological identical gametes (isogametes) is called isogamy. e.g. Monocystis.
