With the help of a ruler and a compass, we can draw a line segment by following steps: Assume we're given the line segment XY . Now, follow these steps. Step 1 : Draw a line l and mark point A on it. Step 2 : Using a compass, measure the XY of a line segment. Step 3 : Now keeping the compass opened the same length. We keep the pointed end at point A and draw an arc on line l . Therefore, AB is the required line segment.

If P Q = 6 . 8 cm , S T = 3 . 4 cm , construct the following: P Q - 1 2 S T .

Given: P Q = 6 . 8 cm S T = 3 . 4 cm 1. Draw any line P and mark a point O on it. 2. Construct a line segment O M on line P equal in length to P Q starting from O . 3. Construct another line segment M L on line P equal in length to S T but on the left of M i.e. L is between O and M . 4. Construct another line which is half of S T . 5. Now, O L is the required line segment equal to P Q - 1 2 S T .
