Minerals are homogenous, naturally occurring substances that have a definite chemical composition and internal structure. Minerals are not evenly distributed across the world. Minerals are found in ores and exhibit different physical and chemical properties such as colour, hardness, lustre and solubility.

The molten or semi-molten natural materials found under the Earth's surface from which the igneous rocks are formed are called magma. Magma is formed when temperatures within the mantle are very hot and when the pressure in places within those layers decreases. The magma rises and overflows when a volcano erupts.

Lava is molten material ejected from a volcanic eruption in liquid form. The temperature of freshly ejected lava may range from 600 to 1200 degree celsius. Once it emerges on the Earth's surface, it flows and slowly cools down, consuming objects along its path.
