Construct $\overline{\mathrm{AB}}$ of length $3.5$$\mathrm{cm}$and $\overline{\mathrm{CD}}$ of length $4.2$ $\mathrm{cm}$. Now, construct $\overline{\mathrm{XY}}$such that the length of $\overline{\mathrm{XY}}$$=$Length of $\overline{\mathrm{AB}}$ $+$Length of $\overline{\mathrm{CD}}$.

Construct $\stackrel{-}{\mathrm{PQ}}$ of length $8$$\mathrm{cm}$. Cut off $\stackrel{-}{\mathrm{PM}}$ of length $3.6$ $\mathrm{cm}$ from it. Measure the length of $\stackrel{-}{\mathrm{MQ}}$. Verify that length of $\stackrel{-}{\mathrm{PQ}}$ - length of $\stackrel{-}{\mathrm{PM}}$ $=$ length of $\stackrel{-}{\mathrm{MQ}}$.
