Classify various type of joints found in human body. Present the information in the form of chart. Give examples of each type.

Joints are point of contact between bones, or between bones and cartilage. They are essential for all types of movements involving the bony parts of the body. Joints have been classified into 3 major structural forms. The pictographic representation of types of joints is as follows:

1. Fibrous joints- These are immovable joints and do not allow any movements. White fibrous tissue is present between the articulating bones. These are present in skull bones and are known as sutures which form cranium.

2. Cartilaginous joints- Bones joined together with the help of cartilages, which allows limited movement as in between the adjacent vertebrae. There is a pad of white fibrous cartilage between the articulating bones.

3. Synovial joints- Presence of fluid filled synovial cavity which allows considerable movements. The articular surfaces of the bones are covered with articular cartilage. Various types of synovial joints are gliding, hinge, pivot, ball and socket, ellipsoid and saddle.
