1-(e) Rabies is a viral disease that causes inflammation of the brain in humans and other mammals. It is caused by the bite of the rabid dog. Monkeys, cats or rabbits may also cause rabies. It is a fatal viral disease which is caused by the rabies virus. This virus is present in the saliva of the infected animals. The person who suffered from the rabies virus finds difficulty in the intake of even liquid food. Because the patient develops a fear of water, the disease is also known as hydrophobia. 2-(d) Cholera is caused by a bacterium. The name of the bacterium is Vibrio cholerae . It is an acutely infectious disease. It causes severe diarrhoea and dehydration. This disease is transmitted by flies, contaminated water and food. 3-(b) Malaria is caused by the protozoan parasite, Plasmodium . It is spread by the bite of the insect vector, known as Female Anopheles , which is a mosquito. It feeds on human blood. 4-(c) Helminths are parasitic worms which cause a number of diseases. Taeniasis is a disease caused by the tapeworm species Taenia saginata. Humans can catch this infection by eating raw or undercooked beef. 5-(a) Fungi is the external factor which is responsible for ringworm. Trichophyton , Microsporum and Epidermophyton are three genera which are responsible for ringworm. These infect the skin (the largest sense organ), hair and nail. 6-(h) Antigens are diseases causing particles or organisms that enter our body to trigger the immune system of our body to produce antibodies. 7-(f) Antibodies are protein molecules produced in our body against the antigens to protect our body from the infections. When a pathogen attacks the body and the body gives the response by producing antibodies against the antigen(pathogen) with the help of T-lymphocytes and B-lymphocytes. 8-(g) DPT is a combination vaccine which acts against three diseases: Diphtheria, Pertussis(whooping cough) and Tetanus. This vaccine contains toxoids of Diphtheria and Tetanus and killed whole cells of Pertussis. 9-(j) MMR is a vaccine that is given to young children to protect them against certain diseases. MMR is an abbreviation for measles, mumps and rubella. 10-(i) BCG or Bacillus-Calmette-Guerin vaccination prevents Tuberculosis. This vaccine contains weakened Tuberculosis bacillus .
