A distance-time graph shows how far an object has travelled in a given time. It is a simple line graph that denotes distance versus time findings on the graph. Distance is plotted on the Y-axis. Time is plotted on the X-axis. In uniform motion, the distance-time graph would be a straight line, because the equal distance is covered in equal units of time. Table A If the distance-time graph is a straight line parallel to time axis, it indicates that the object is not moving.The body does not move as the body is at same position at all times. Thus, body is at rest. Table B Here unequal distances are travelled by an object in equal time intervals, The object covers the unequal distance which is equal intervals of time.

Observe the graphs and answer the questions. What type of motion is shown by the body here?

The distance-time graph for a body moving with non-uniform speed is not a straight line because it covers unequal distances in equal intervals of time. The shape of the distance-time graph depends upon the way speed changes with time. When speed of an object decreases with time the shape of the graph is like a decreasing curve, as the speed decreases with increase in time.
