When dry distillations of calcium acetate ( CH 3 COO ) 2 Ca , acetone and calcium carbonate are obtained. The reactions are as follows: ( HCOO ) 2 Ca → ∆ HCHO + CaCO 3 ( CH 3 COO ) 2 Ca → ∆ CH 3 − CO − CH 3 + CaCO 3 So when ( ( HCOO ) 2 Ca ) and ( CH 3 COO ) 2 Ca are dry distilled, acetaldehyde is obtained ( HCOO ) 2 Ca + CH 3 COO 2 Ca → ∆ 2 CH 3 CHO + 2 CaCO 3
