Exosmosis is defined as the diffusion of water molecules out of the cell from inside through the semipermeable cell membrane that causes shrinkage of the cell. This process occurs when the cell is placed in a hypertonic solution.

Endocytosis involves the process of internalisation of particles into the cell by the process of invagination of the cell membrane, which results in the formation of vesicles or vacuoles. Amoeba obtains its food through this process.

Exocytosis is defined as the mechanism by which materials get discharged from the vacuoles by the process of fusion of the vacuoles with the cell membrane. It is the reverse mechanism of endocytosis. The examples of cells using this process are the secretion of proteins such as enzymes, peptide hormones and antibodies from different cells.
