i)- e) The clinical thermometer is an instrument consisting of a narrow, sealed glass tube with a numbered scale having one end a bulb containing mercury which extends along the tube. The long narrow tube of the thermometer containing a kink that helps to hold the mercury, therefore helps to determine the body temperature. ii)- c) The clinical thermometer is made up of mercury and as it has the lowest melting point. It is used for clinical purposes only. This thermometer can measure the small range of temperature. It can measure the ranges between 35 ° C to 42 ° C . The normal body temperature is 37 ° C however, it can vary from 35 ° C to 37 ° C . iii)- a) The energy is a quantitative property that can neither be created nor be destroyed, it can be transformed from one form to another form and can be of many forms as potential energy, kinetic energy, frictional energy, and heat energy. iv)- b) Water is a transparent, colourless, odourless universal solvent. The water is found in the physical states on the earth. These are the solid, the liquid, and the gas. The liquid water is converted into water vapour at 100 ° C called the boiling point. v)- e) The liquid water is converted into solid water called the ice at 0 ° C . It is the freezing point of water. The addition of different substances in the water causes the chemical reactions with the water molecule. The chemical reactions can be of two types on the basis of release or utilization of energy. These are named as follows: Exothermic reactions Endothermic reaction When we add washing powder, baking soda, and common salt in the water, the reaction takes place causes the release of energy in the form of heat, therefore the temperature of water increases. When we add glucose and sugar in the water, the reaction involves the absorption of heat energy, therefore the temperature of water decreases. The change in the temperature can be calculated by using laboratory thermometer.
