Explain the following sentence.

Energy obtained from fossil fuels is not green energy.

Green energy is environment-friendly energy which does not contribute to the degradation of environment. These are renewable sources of energy which are easily replenished by nature. Some examples of green energy sources are wind, sunlight, tides, etc. Fossil fuels are non-renewable sources of energy which are getting depleted due to over-consumption. Some examples of fossil fuels are coal, petroleum, natural gas etc.

Electricity generation based on fossil fuels like coal, natural gas and nuclear fuels is not environment friendly. The electrical energy generated using these fuels can lead to degradation of the environment. Burning of fossil fuels leads to the emission of toxic gases like, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide, and soot particles which mix in the air causing air pollution and other respiratory diseases. It takes millions of years for the formation of these sources. The amount of these fuel availability is limited and thus cannot be used in an unlimited amount. So, the usage of fossil fuels for energy generation adversely impacts the environment and living beings. These facts suggest that the energy obtained from fossil fuels is not green energy.
