Construct a trapezium BOAT in which $\bar{B O}$ is parallel to $\bar{T A}, B O = 7 cm, O A = 6 cm$ $, B A = 10 cm$ and $T A = 6 cm$ . Also find its area.

Given:

$B O = 7 cm, O A = 6 cm, B A = 10 cm, T A = 6 cm and \bar{B O} ‖ \bar{T A}$

Steps:

Draw a line segment $B O = 7 cm$ .

With $B$ and $O$ as centres, draw arcs of radii $10 cm$ and $6 cm$ respectively and let them cut at $A$ .

Join $B A$ and $O A$ .

Draw $A X$ parallel to $B O$

With A as centre, draw an arc of radius $6 cm$ cutting $A X$ at $T$ .

Join $B T .$ BOAT is the required trapezium.

Calculation of Area:

Area of the trapezium BOAT $= \frac{1}{2} \times h \times (a + b)$ square units

$= \frac{1}{2} \times 5.9 \times (7 + 6)$

$= \frac{1}{2} \times 5.9 \times (13) = 38.35 {cm}^{2}$

Hence, the area of the trapezium is $38.35 {cm}^{2}$ .
