At same temperature different solutes dissolve to different extents in the same volume of water. The extent of their dissolution is compared by the term solubility. The weight of the solute in grams which dissolves in 100 grams of a solvent or water at a particular temperature to produce a saturated solution is called the solubility of that solute at that temperature. Temperature and nature of solvent are the factors affecting solubility.

Diffusion is the property by virtue of which the molecules of solute and solvent can distribute itself uniformly throughout the whole mass. For example, Take water in a beaker and add little sugar to it. It is seen that sugar particles are deposited at the bottom. But as time passes sugar gradually dissolves and thus, the sweetness of the sugar becomes equal in all parts of the solution. The process of diffusion takes place because the solute and solvent particles are moving continuously. (ii) the solute particles diffuses from concentrated solution to dilute solution, (iii) the solvent molecules move from high concentration to low concentration. The process of diffusion continues till the concentration of the solution is uniform. Diffusion continues even after attaining equilibrium.
