Our alimentary canal starts from the mouth and ends in the anus where each part has different gland, secretion, which helps in the process of digestion. Digestion starts in the mouth where teeth help in mechanical digestion. Saliva is secreted by a salivary gland which helps in carbohydrate (starch) digestion to maltose. Saliva mixes with food and helps in swallowing.

Food from the mouth moves to the stomach through the oesophagus in the peristaltic movement. No digestion takes place here.
In stomach maximum digestion takes place. The lining secretes hydrochloric acid, mucosa, digestive juices, which helps in the digestion of protein.

In small intestine bile juice secreted from the liver helps in fat digestion. Pancreatic juice helps in carbohydrate digestion. Maximum absorption also takes place here.
In large intestine water and salts are absorbed. Almost solid waste is moved to the rectum, which gets eliminated through the anus.
