Explain the working of the full-wave rectifier with a diagram.

Rectification is the conversion of an alternating current to a direct current. A full- wave rectifier is a device which rectifies both halves of each cycle of an alternating voltage. The full-wave rectifier consists of two p-n junction diodes connected to a single load resistance $(R_{L})$ with each diode, in turn, to supply current to the load. When point $A$ of the transformer is positive with respect to point $C$ , diode $D_{1}$ conducts in the forward direction. We get a positive output at the voltage.

When point $B$ is positive (in the negative half of the cycle) with respect to point $C$ , diode $D_{2}$ conducts in the forward direction and the current flowing through resistor $R$ in the same direction for both half-cycles. We get a positive output at the voltage.
