Why can't two magnetic field lines intersect?

The magnetic field lines do not intersect (or cross) one another. This is due to the fact that the resultant force on a North pole at any point can be only in one direction. But if the two magnetic field lines intersect one another, then the resultant force on a North pole placed at the point of intersection will be along two directions, which is not possible. In other words, no two field-lines are found to cross each other. If they did, it would mean that at the point of intersection, the compass needle would point towards two directions, which is not possible.
