Salts are formed during a neutralisation reaction and can be acidic, basic or neutral.
Examples:

1. Acidic salt is formed when strong acid reacts with a weak base. It will turn blue litmus to red.

For example, the salt formed by the reaction between hydrochloric acid (strong acid) and ammonium hydroxide (weak base) is acidic in nature.

$\underset{(Strong acid)}{Hydrochloric acid} + \underset{(Weak base)}{Ammonium hydroxide} \to \underset{(Acidic salt)}{Ammonium chloride} + Water$

2. Basic salt is formed when weak acid reacts with a strong base. It will turn red litmus to blue.

For example, the salt formed by the reaction between carbonic acid (weak acid) and sodium hydroxide (strong base) is basic in nature.

$\underset{(weak acid)}{Carbonic acid} + \underset{(strong base)}{Sodium hydroxide} \to \underset{(basic salt)}{Sodium carbonate} + Water$

3. Neutral salts are formed when a strong acid and a strong base or a weak acid and a weak base react with each other. These salts have no effect on litmus.
