Aim: To observe the chemical effects of electric current.

Things required: Two discarded cells, sandpaper, connecting wires, water, common salt and a glass beaker

Method:
$1 .$ The carbon rods from the discarded cells were taken out.
$2 .$ The metal caps of the carbon rods were cleaned with sandpaper.
$3 .$ The wires extending from the two terminals of the battery were connected to the metal caps of the carbon rods. Carbon rods were used to function as electrodes.
$4 .$ Some water was poured in the beaker and salt was added to make a salt solution.
$5 .$ The carbon rods were immersed in the salt solution, ensuring that the metal caps of the carbon rods remained outside the salt solution.
$6 .$ The electrodes were carefully observed after a few minutes.

Observation:
After a few minutes, gas bubbles were observed near the electrodes. This showed the emission of certain gases.
