Geographical Features and Climate of Haryana
Haryana was carved out of Punjab as the 17th Indian state on 1st November 1966. This region was known as Brahomoupdesa, Aryavarta. Brahmavarta in ancient time.
1. Haryana is located in northwest India between 27° 39' N to 30° 35' N latitude and between 74° 28' E to 77° 36' E longitude.
2. Chandigarh, the capital of Harayana, is shared by its neighbouring state of Punjab. Swiss-born French architect Le Corbusier designed Chandigarh.
3. Haryana has 1.34% of India's geographical area.
4. Haryana reported a per capita income of 1,80,174 per annum in 2016- 17 compared to the national average of 1,03,818 in the same financial year.
5. Haryana has six administrative divisions, i.e., Rohtak, Ambala, Gurgaon, Hisar, Karnal and Faridabad.
Haryana has Four Main Geographical Features:
(i) The Yamuna-Ghaggar plain forms the largest part of the state.
(ii) Shivalik Hills to the northeast in the foothills of the Himalayas.
(iii) Semi-desert dry sandy plain to the southwest.
(iv) Aravali Hills in the south.
The Climate of Haryana: Haryana is extremely hot in summer at around 45 °C (113 °F) and mild in winter. The hottest months are May and June and the coldest December and January. The climate is arid to semi-arid with an average rainfall of 354.5 mm.
