Immunity is a condition of being able to resist a particular disease especially through preventing development of a pathogenic microorganism. Immunity can be classified into two categories:

1. Innate immunity

It is natural by birth (nonspecific or specific).

Nonspecific innate immunity is resistance to all infections in general.

Specific innate immunity is resistance to a particular kind of germ.

2. Acquired or adaptive immunity

The immunity that an individual acquires after birth is called acquired immunity or adaptive immunity. It is specific and mediated by antibodies or lymphocytes or both which make the antigen harmless.
