One of the cell phone is placed inside the airtight container, and then the container is closed with a lid. After this, a call is made on the cell phone that has been placed in the container from the second cell phone.

One can listen to the high-volume ringtone that comes from the cell phone placed in the container. Slowly start the vacuum pump and remove all the air that is present inside the air-tight container. It can be observed that the volume of the ringtone starts decreasing as the air is being removed from the container. There will be a point when all the air is removed, and no sound of ringtone can be heard from the cell phone. This indicates that sound is not able to move in the vacuum, and it needs a medium to travel.
