A hand axe is a longest-utilised tool in the history of human beings. Palaeolithic humans used hand axes to cut meat, butcher animals, and chop wood. During the Mesolithic Age Hand axes were replaced by Microliths.

Hand axes are bi-facial tools and were also used were flaking tools from larger core tools.

Chopper was used by early humans for cutting and chopping.

Choppers allowed early peoples to cut apart soft materials, especially meat and wood.

One of the major uses of choppers was to cut through the meat and skins of hunted animals to obtain food, fur and hide. The first chopper tool was discovered from the site of Olduvai Gorge by Leakey.
