Structure of Mitochondria:

They are usually sausage-shaped, spherical, oval, or cylindrical organelles found in the cytoplasm.

Each mitochondrion is bounded by a double membrane. The outer membrane is smooth while the inner membrane has foldings called Cristae, which increase the surface area of the inner membrane and provide more space for cellular activity.

The inner space of mitochondria is filled with a dense fluid called the mitochondrial matrix.

Mitochondria have their own DNA and ribosomes suspended within the matrix.
